The on-going construction of Ksh.2.6 billion Shimoni Fish Port by the Kenya Ports Authority has achieved an overall completion rate of 84.7 percent.

This is the first fish Port in the region and is expected to harness the potential of the Blue Economy by significantly enhancing fish production, processing, and value addition, both locally and for the export market.

Construction of the modern jetty measuring 75 meters by 30 meters, along with a causeway spanning 135 meters in length and 7 meters in width is 92 percent complete. The modern facility has a dedicated warehouse which will serve as a fish processing plant.

Additionally, other features under construction include a fish market, cold storage facilities, reefer stations, power substation, an ice-making plant, a bio-digester, and waste-water management and a perimeter fence.
