@DuncanWestbury @Freshwaterhabs @freshwaterbio @WorcsWT Sadly I see these all the time too. Management worthwhile but only if water quality/land use around can be fixed. As well as mgmt/restoration, make NEW clean water ponds too. With grazing if poss. Relatively cheap with instant benefits.

This week we’ve planted hedges & tree copses in Northants & Beds to improve connectivity & cover for #GCN & other wildlife. We’re using biodegradeable guards to minimise our environmental footprint & the hedgerow has 13 British tree & shrub species to maximise ecological benefit!

We’ve just finished restoring an overshaded, silted up #pond in Bedfordshire for GCN. Reprofiling will provide more warm, shallow water for newts and other aquatic wildlife. We’ve also created 2 clean water ponds here to increase the amount of breeding habitat available to GCN 🦎
