@jesitaajani01 I am a middle-aged white guy with a masters from Harvard and I didn’t have to work nearly so hard. Keep fighting! Tons of respect to you!
@DrLisaBThompson@HubJHU Just awful fking news. Shani was a student of mine in HS and we kept in touch until recently — no reason, just our lives diverged. Last I saw her was dinner at mine c. 10 years ago. I'm sick over this. I hope all you who knew her well in recent years find peace in your grief. 💔
1/5 It's possible to predict people's authoritarian/racist attitudes just by knowing what they value most in children: obedience, respect for elders, and good manners ... as opposed to curiosity, independence, and considerateness...
@emteehall Straight middle-aged white guy here, grandparents all born in the US. Worked in schools for 24 years. Sponsored @Scholastic book fairs. Just read the @NYT piece on #racism and #racismdenial. YOU ROCK. DON'T GIVE AN INCH. Hope sales go through the roof.
Pro tip: You can't "make" your #children find #happiness. Encourage them to cultivate relationships and work through unpleasant experiences — to strive for their own #joy and fulfillment and maybe #happiness too. Great piece by @dfkris: https://t.co/9S8tL2KtPi
Good piece @mlparentcoach in Thurs @washingtonpost on benefits of #summercamp and #play for children, rather than academics. Ignore #anxiety; send kids to camp: "Trust that the learning many of us want for our children is happening while they play." https://t.co/5MtnYNw5aN
@GregChap70@alfiekohn Luckily, there's an experiment already in the works, as Florida is doing all it can do "de-professionalize" teachers. I'm sure it will work out well for society in the long run to have as many poorly educated people running around as possible.
I've always admired @alfiekohn's writing. Today's piece in @edweek raises troubling questions about #feedback that is acontextual — that is, devoid of an understanding of its role among other factors in boosting #achievement and #success. https://t.co/6PjvJr7KNs
@Mr_Rablin When I was in grad school, the TAs routinely asked each other if they’d read the assignments. The standard reply: “Read it?! Hell, I haven’t even taught it yet!”
@charlesbethea I worked in #independentschools for 25 years and received a handful of letters like this. They were never signed, and they always failed to state: What specific views of yours/your child's are being marginalized? Voicing that stuff sometimes puts a stop to it
@jesslahey Damn. Sorry. I had a series of three lumbar epidurals a couple months ago and the relief was near 100 percent ... and the pains are now slowly returning. Good luck. Right there with you!
