Shocked the World (but not ourselves) 🇦🇺
We take down World #2 Chinese Taipei in the opener of the biggest tournament there is.
Perkins and Bazzana homered.
Alex Wells, Jack O’Loughlin and Jon Kennedy each toss three shutout.
Proud.

@donovan_smith Just curious what is the basis for your white-collar foreign worker estimate? The immigration department data on ARC and APRC holders includes these categories.
“The Lord Jesus’s gospel mission doesn’t depend on the Archbishop of Canterbury. Christ is building his church.”
Mark Thompson, principal of @MooreCollege, has an astute @TGC column reflecting on news out of the Church of England.

“Some things cannot be communicated well unless you eat the same food, sleep in the same houses, and walk the same trails of the people God has placed you among.”

@TGC_Au Contextualize seems to carry a lot of baggage as a word.
Some people use this word when they seem to mean syncretism.
Good contextualization seeks to make the gospel understandable in a language and culture. It also applies the correction of God's word to the specific culture.
The Reformation commitment to priesthood of all believers doesn’t render overseers, elders and pastors obsolete. That would be unbiblical. It doesn’t mean there is no good order or authority in the church. That too would be unbiblical. But (amongst other things) it does mean that those in authority are not the only (even the primary) “builders of the body”. Their privilege is to lead, guard and equip the members of the body as they all “one-another” to maturity in Christ, and so build up the body. The church is not simply its leaders. The church is the full body of Christ. We are all together in Christ and for Christ.
@davidould Wait, he heard things that were concerning, had limited power in the situation, reported it anyway because thats the right thing to do, and then thirty years after reporting it gets disciplined... for not doing enough!?
It’s often those outside the church who can see idolatry clearer than we can.
@IsabelHardman on the Smyth coverup in @TheSpectator:
“They seemed to think their God was so small that he relied on them to carry on his work, rather than that he could do just fine without them.”
“We had just graduated from SMBC, and one of many highlights of our time studying at college was learning about the profound importance of contextualisation in Christian ministry...”

Thank you for the special welcome, Australia! 🇦🇺
The King and Queen have touched down in Sydney to begin their visit to Australia.
The visit marks His Majesty’s first visit to a Realm as Sovereign.
@danitreweek Another problem with sociologically based arguments (though not the same as those you quote) is the unthinking application of data about the world at large to those who are gathered in the local church.
To the haters,
Imagine being born a woman, and one day, an institution claims to use outdated methods and declares you’re a man, without providing any evidence.
Then the whole world starts demanding that you prove you’re a woman.
Even though you carry reports, and even the Olympic Committee vouches for you, the world still demands that you prove you’re a woman. When you present the reports, they tell you the reports lack credibility; when you prove your identity, they accuse you of having surgery.
What you’re doing now, and what you may do in the future, is exactly this.
As Taiwanese, we won’t turn a blind eye to this kind of bullying.
"Super isn't just about securing retirements; it's about fuelling economic growth." – Kevin Rudd
"Super is a cornerstone of our economic framework. It encourages savings, drives investment, and ultimately supports consumption" – Tony Abbott
This is part of how we ended up here
100 years ago, Eric Liddell was in Paris winning gold at the #Olympics.
But he went on to be a missionary in China and left a legacy, the effects of which are still being felt today in Japan.

@mbird12 I'm going to add, that the information I see based on what I know about Taiwan makes me doubt the IBA story. Yet in your retweets you seem to hold a view on her gender at a similar level of confidence to that we should have for key issues of doctrine.
@mbird12 As a missionary serving in Taiwan, I don't understand why you are doubling and tripling down here. Especially because you usually have sensible takes. Lin was given a female ID number at birth, and has lived consistent with that ID since.
