This philosophy is why I set up a psychology service called Not The Easy Way @NotTheEasyWay1
Less time pathologising
Less time reducing unwanted emotions/thoughts
More time encouraging the pursuit of meaning
More time broadening experiences & developing skills

Don't tell the kids to not feel that way
Don't tell the kids that you'll take the feeling away
Don't set life up so that they don't feel the feeling
Instead, encourage them to #DARE & go on the adventure with them!

We're offering to host free Speak Space events at any UK university in honour of #CharlieKirk's commitment to the free exchange of ideas.
Please get in touch or share if you know of a uni group that would host
Speak Space builds understanding, tolerance, & our common humanity.
If you disagree with someone, ask questions.
If you get a response, listen.
If views make you uncomfortable, ask yourself why.
If you start name-calling, take a breath.
Don't intimidate. Don't kill. Don't celebrate their death.
A good man was killed because of bigotry. RIP.
I saw this video this morning on my feed and I think it so eloquently explains what Charlie Kirk was put on this earth to do.
“When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence, that is when civil war happens”
.@KonstantinKisin: “This has to be the moment when we all say, ‘Enough of your bullshit. Words are not violence. Silence is not violence. Violence is violence, and it’s completely unacceptable. And it has to end.’ ”
@Keir_Starmer With respect Prime Minister, policy should be informed by sober research, not highly emotive performance art, no matter how powerful the acting is.
Here’s some incel research we conducted with support from @CommissionCE and presented to the @CommonsWEC.

Freedom of speech was not explicitly stated as a 'British Value' in schools when the Prevent strategy was introduced.
If you only promote vague notions of tolerance and respect without the counterbalance of free speech, you end up teaching children to quietly tolerate anything.
"When psychologists [...] listened to the voice of the child to the exclusion of all other perspectives and evidence, when they allowed advocacy of an ideological perspective [...] to replace professional rigour and a duty of care, they failed children."

Society is quick to highlight negative male role models.

But what about the good ones?
Who is guiding boys & young men positively?
We spoke to @CostelloWilliam about his friend @ChrisWillx
Who else should teenage boys be directed towards?
Discussed @CostelloWilliam incel research

Incels see themselves as ineffective in romantic relationships & can be misogynistic but
Do we see emotional pain in men?
Do we reject men who are in pain?
What does this mean for how we support teenage boys?
What's the one lesson you wanted in school but never got? 💘
https://t.co/Zb30hNmkxf
@CostelloWilliam discusses how helping young men become better partners is a laudable goal.
Without it, someone else will fill that vacuum.

Incels perceive themselves to be ineffective in romantic relationships & can engage in misogynistic behaviour.
What can we learn from this group about male mental health?
Video out Monday!

The parents' revolution has begun in the UK. Parents are rising up to take collective action for a smartphone free childhood. It will happen in many other countries by the end of this year:

I signed this letter to prompt government to examine the ideological capture of organisations
In psychology, the people who should have
asked questions
explored multiple possibilities
protected
Instead
stopped asking
followed only one possibility
caused harm
Why? How?

*We are ashamed of the role psychology has played
*These were psychology-led services.
*BPS has failed to produce guidelines for clinicians working with young people
*BPS forced into making an official response now minimises its own role

Along with over 130 politicians, clinicians, lawyers, social workers, detransitioners, academics and campaigners, I have written to @RishiSunak, demanding a Public Inquiry into the infiltration of gender ideology and the harming of children.
Please read and share.
The @AEPsychologists emails weekly updates of all things in the news relevant to EP practice...and have yet to make any reference to the #cassreview it's about time there was a review into the practice of all Educational Psychologists in relation to gender affirming practices.
It's not enough to just point out to boys how appalling this is.
We need to give them a better story.
One in which they're still strong confident young men.
But also young men with integrity, responsibility & virtue with something to offer the world.
