Xbox may be exploring a new way to put ads into games.

A Microsoft patent published on September 3 describes a system that could detect natural breaks in gameplay, like finishing a level, and show an ad.
Players could then get a reward, such as a period of uninterrupted gameplay.

It’s basically the “watch an ad, get a reward” system already common in mobile games.

Microsoft is already testing ad-supported cloud gaming, so this could be another piece of its bigger advertising plans.
