PSR is not active anymore. And Everton's SCR ceiling is determined by club revenues (broadcasting, match day, etc). In that regard, Everton are going gang busters and have some headroom.
So the Armstrong sale looks to me like a cash flow issue:
1. TFG injected £40m equity to pay the Burnley fine (and a further £13m recently - don't know the purpose).
2. Club have just received the Sky Money
3. But, there are stadium & bank debts to be serviced (£45m) + transfer debts to be paid (£20m-30m) + losses to fund
4. A proper owner would inject more equity to fund transfers and invest in the squad.
5. It seems to me the Armstrong sale is to plug cash flow holes.
6. Here is true kicker. The Armstrong sale will create a huge amount of SCR headroom but we won't be able to use all of it because we won't have the cash (two different things). SCR is a ratio based on accounting. Cash is the amount available in your bank.
7. What will be available is only the upfront amount Forest pay us minus whatever we need to make up cash flow shortfalls.
This is the other side of Brentford/Brighton/Bournemouth model. Not only do they sell players to stay compliant, they also sell players to fund themselves.
I thought we had owners who thought different. But we don't. They are moneyball types applying a PE model to a fragile club with an underinvested squad.
And that's the difference between us and Brighton etc. We don't have the squad to sell players without severely harming its quality. Nor the recruitment to replacing someone like Armstrong.
🎙️| What a difference Branthwaite makes. He was brilliant, especially second half. He was marshalling that defence second half when we were 2-0 up and he makes such a difference to this team. A big win to start the season and we are up and running - @SteveKelly86 🔵
