@rdeolm1@johnmyleswhite If you would read the tweet you are replying to, you will find that this desirable state of affairs requires lowering the price of carbon capture by 1000x.
@TaylorLorenz@krishnanrohit I think government mandated independent oversight of the labs is a good idea and that failure to do so could have grave irreversible consequences
@x1234521@yuanyi_z You need an account that also covers Gino and Wansink. Imo, the pattern is unis will act to cover their ass--under a limit, they protect; over a limit they throw under the bus. Race isn't irrelevant, but set your sights higher. Ariely could get canned with a big enough stink.
@ciphergoth@Noahpinion Genentech and Stanford both acted much more to cover their own asses than in the public interest. I think the lack of crazy libel laws was maybe the more important element--the rational ass-covering thing eventually flips from brushing off / covering up to throwing under the bus.
@LinkofSunshine It's like conservatives' view that some people are "criminals" and others "law abiding citizens" in some immutable and essential way, disconnected from any acts of law breaking per se. But with a different cast of victims and villains.
@SaucePieJones@SashaGusevPosts His data was interviews he claimed to have done, but he plagiarized responses from someone else's papers' interviews. It is both fabrication of data and plagiarism at the same time. Seems a/ worse and b/ equally obvious and irrefutable.
@ErichJ_Schwartz@mattyglesias I mean, lots of repeated games have high variance, and for many people, the 50/50 one shot option is already preferable to the low paying sure thing. Repeated games change the calculus, but for any fixed form of the game, risk aversion is very relevant.
@IntenseRealist@shashj I don't think "any" is the relevant word. I think it's "city". Is Plano a real city? (I think the speaker would say no, and a reasonable listener would know that many people would agree with that.)
@ObiWanK95088527@vers_laLune I think "customer retention" is one of those topics, like "making money", where you better keep returning to it, or you go out of business. "Why do I have to brush my teeth, I just brushed them yesterday" ass question.
