I'm 57 and I look 57!
And so does that lady even though she's claiming to look 15 years younger than her 56 years.
I have 4 kids and they are worth every line on my face, every gray hair and every stretch mark.
To have a society that's safe, free, and pleasant for 99% of people, you need to seriously deal with the raping, thieving, murderous 1%.
Modern 'enlightened' people resist this because it makes them feel bad.
They'd rather let violent psychos roam free than be 'mean'.
“It is still not totally clear how advantageous LLMs will prove to be, but if even half the promises the optimists have made on their behalf are correct, the only thing to do is let this technology run its course, and use its power to secure the world against its worst possibilities”
Why AI risk is real but unnecessarily sensationalised, and why regulatory regimes to limit AI are probably a bad idea and won't work anyway

If the money system wasn't fundamentally broken, it wouldn't be mandatory to own assets just in order to maintain your purchasing power.
Infinite money printing is the most destructive scam that nearly everybody just accepts.
It never gets addressed.
“As a 3x Olympic gold medalist, I underwent sex verification myself. It was a simple cheek swab, and I know firsthand why clear eligibility standards matter. …I only wish we’d had similarly effective safeguards to catch the systematic doping of East German women swimmers in my era,” (right @sharrond62?)

I will be in Minneapolis on Thursday to watch the last Indiana Fever game of the regular season. There are a lot of folks who don't want me and other women's advocates there. But we are coming to have fun and celebrate the end of the season.
The activists who plan to show up can yell in our ears with bullhorns and call us names. But we won't be deterred. Nor will we harass them in return.
There will be no harassment or violence or general bad behavior from me or my friends.
The men getting violent and fighting with each other in Portland right now do not represent this movement. They do not represent us. This is not the way. Not sure who these men are but chucking rocks and pepper spray is dangerous and just plain stupid.
We'll be in Minneapolis to celebrate a banner season for the WNBA and for women's basketball and the protection of women's sports.
As we have said repeatedly, we are FOR women and girls. We are not against anyone. And we certainly don’t use violence and harassment in the name of standing up for women and girls.
Please join us to celebrate.
🏆 WE DID IT! 🏆
For the first time since 1914, there have been no North Atlantic hurricane formations by September 21st.
Fay did not attain hurricane strength overnight, and has since weakened, with maximum sustained wind speeds dropping from 70 to 50 mph. Weakening is expected to continue over the next couple of days. No other storm formations are expected for at least the next seven days (but that can change).
The only other two times that this has happened since 1851 were in 1905 (October 8th) and 1907, respectively, and like 1914, the 1907 season featured no Atlantic hurricanes that we know of (pre-satellite era data is to be taken with a grain of salt).
Are you impressed? 🤩
"teachers are underpaid and schools are underfunded" is one the great persistent lies in america. our schools are highly funded, likely the most funded in the world. we pay ~$21k/student. that's $420k/year per class of 20.
marke thinks he's going to discover that the teachers are not getting paid. but they are.
per grok:
PS 307 (Daniel Hale Williams, Brooklyn) budgets about $116k average per classroom teacher (FY26 Galaxy: $3.38M for 29 positions). Citywide median teacher pay is ~$107k. Teachers work ~180 days vs ~250 for private year-round jobs, so equivalent full-year compensation is roughly $161k (before benefits value).
and we have not yet discussed their platinum plated benefits and pensions and their absolutely insane levels of job security.
the problem is not that schools have no money or that teachers do not get paid, the problem is that schools have no incentive to spend money well and have been captured by teachers unions that place themselves about education.
the problem is that the school system itself has become so insane and broken that no reasonable, effective person would want to work there.
pay is not by talent, but by tenure. that does not attract the best and brightest, it attracts chair fillers.
pay teachers for outcomes and fund kids not school systems and force schools to compete in order to provide a good product and see how fast this gets better. vouchers could fix this in a decade and restore the US school system to uncontested best in world status.
it's obvious and it's simple and it takes 0 additional dollars. that's why the creatures union hates it.
there is a direct negative link between teacher union strength and literacy. giving them more money will only make it worse. decades of trying that have been an abject failure.
it's time to admit once and for all that the DoE and the school system itself is the problem.
education is not too important to be left to free markets, it's too important not to be.
“Any appeal to the collective good is always a lie… the whole thing is just a self-absorbed, masturbatory pretense to know what's best, arrogance masquerading as altruism, a way to feel smug about knowing what's best for everyone that has a nasty tendency to metastasize into telling others how to order their lives”
people who thought they were safe because they were"knowledge workers" are now seeing many kinds of thought and processing get commoditized and automated. it's just like what happened to farm labor because of the tractor or textile cobbler guilds from machine automation.
"i am a skilled artisan" became "this is mass produced in a factory using automated assembly lines."
and the price of shoes dropped from 50 hours of median labor in 1800 to 3-4 today. and society benefitted.
knowledge work is not special. there is no seperate catergory for it that exempts it from the basic idea that "automation and productivity benefits the consumer and the benefit of the consumer is the benefit of humanity."
even in knowledge work, this is not new. we used to have draftsmen. most of them were replaced by CAD software. "computer" was a job. then it was hardware and excel and ERP.
what's happening here is what has happened in 100 other places, it's just now happening to groups that feel special and that have not faced it before.
it's just "recession is when your neighbor loses his job, depression is when you lose yours" being played out.
the bootmakers guild may not like the idea of a timberland factory, but that does not mean the factory is not a good idea.
Good evening, Senator.
“Big Oil” does not set the market price for gasoline and diesel.
Prices are largely determined by crude oil futures, as well as refining costs and distribution. Taxes on fuel can also add a significant chunk to the price per gallon depending on the state you live in. Blue states have higher tax rates.
That said, why are you outraged about gas and diesel prices? Isn’t this what you wanted to force a “green energy transition” to avert climate catastrophe?
Or is your climate panic a grift too?
