Mr. Mliswa, I have read your remarks. I have read them carefully, and I have decided they cannot go unanswered not because you have wounded me, but because you have been careless with things that matter, and carelessness of that kind, left unchallenged, becomes dangerous.
You do not speak for the military. You never did.

You are a politician. A vocal one I grant you that. But your familiarity with soldiers does not make you a soldier. And your proximity to power does not qualify you to lecture men who spent their entire adult lives in uniform about what the chain of command means, what respect for the Commander-in-Chief looks like, or what it costs to earn the right to speak on matters of national security.

I earned that right. Thirty years of service earned it. The men you are attacking earned it in the trenches of the liberation struggle before you were old enough to understand what liberation required. Do not come to us with a politician's tongue and instruct us on military protocol.
On the question of the Reserve Force.
You raise the Reserve Force as though it were a leash.

As though the possibility of recall is meant to silence us. Let me educate you, Mr. Mliswa, since you have invited this conversation into the public square.
A soldier's oath is to Zimbabwe and its Constitution not to any individual, not to any faction, and certainly not to any self-appointed political enforcer operating on social media. The Reserve Force exists to serve the Republic. It is not a mechanism for intimidating retired officers who exercise their constitutional right to speak. If you believe otherwise, I suggest you revisit Section 61 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression including to men in or associated with the defence establishment and Section 67, which protects every citizen's right to participate in political life.
Threatening retired generals with recall as a consequence of public comment is not loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief. It is the behaviour of a bully who has mistaken proximity to power for power itself.

On "inconsequential accolades."
You described the credentials of retired generals as "inconsequential accolades." I want you to sit with those words, Mr. Mliswa. Really sit with them. The men whose accolades you dismiss so casually commanded brigades, built institutions, buried colleagues, and held this country together in moments of crisis that you read about in newspapers while we lived them. What are your accolades, Mr. Mliswa? A parliamentary seat you lost? A record of public controversy that stretches the length of this country? A habit of shouting loudest in whatever direction the political wind is blowing?

Do not speak to us about inconsequential. You accuse retired generals of playing politics while using their military credentials. I will tell you what is actually dangerous and it is not retired officers engaging in constitutionally protected civic discourse. What is dangerous is a political actor using the threat of military consequences to suppress legitimate voices. That is the road to authoritarianism, Mr. Mliswa, and I will not pretend otherwise simply because the target of that suppression happens to be people I know.Soldiers who speak from conscience are not a threat to this Republic. Politicians who weaponise the military against conscience those are the threat.

I have served under the Commander-in-Chief. I respect the office. I respect the man's longevity in public service that is not in dispute. But respect for the President does not require silence from citizens. @TembaMliswa

Lake Kariba Levels and Zambezi River Flows Continue Upward Trend – 5 May 2025 Update.

Lake Kariba’s water levels are on a steady upward trend, supported by sustained inflows from key upstream stations on the Zambezi River, according to the latest hydrological data for the week ending 5 May 2025. The gradual but consistent rise signals renewed optimism for regional hydropower generation and water security, following a relatively subdued start to the 2024/25 season.

Lake Kariba Levels Improve to 15.15% Usable Storage.

As of 5 May 2025, Lake Kariba’s water level had risen to 477.68 meters, representing 15.15% usable storage, up from 13.95% just a week earlier on 29 April. This figure also exceeds last year’s level of 477.42 meters (13.31%) recorded on the same date.

The lake, which is designed to operate between 475.50m and 488.50m, has seen incremental increases daily, reflecting strong upstream flows on the Zambezi system.

Daily Lake Levels (2025):
-29 April: 477.51m (13.95%)
-1 May: 477.56m (14.30%)
-3 May: 477.63m (14.79%)
-5 May: 477.68m (15.15%)

Though still far below the Flood Control Rule Curve, the rising trend suggests an improving outlook for hydropower output, particularly for the Kariba South Power Station.

Zambezi River Flow Patterns: Chavuma Slows, Victoria Falls Strengthens.

Daily monitoring across key hydrometric stations—Chavuma, Ngonye, and Victoria Falls—shows mixed trends:

🟢Chavuma Station:
Flow at Chavuma decreased from a peak of 3,103 m³/s on 30 April to 2,584 m³/s on 5 May. This still far exceeds last year’s flow of 774 m³/s on the same date, confirming a stronger runoff season despite recent declines.

🟢Ngonye Station:
At Ngonye, river discharge remained strong, peaking at 3,014 m³/s on 2 May before slightly easing to 2,982 m³/s by 5 May. This compares favourably to 880 m³/s recorded on 5 May 2024.

🟢Victoria Falls (Nana’s Farm):
Victoria Falls continued its upward trajectory, recording 2,635 m³/s on 5 May, compared to 735 m³/s last year. This flow is well above the long-term mean annual flow of 1,100 m³/s, underscoring robust hydrological input into the Kariba catchment.

Hydrological Outlook.
The upward movement in both lake levels and river flows is a positive development for regional water managers and energy planners. However, storage levels at Lake Kariba remain below average, and continued monitoring is essential as the dry season approaches.

The 2024/25 season, while stronger than last year, is still tracking beneath several historical benchmarks, as shown by hydrological benchmarking curves. Nonetheless, projections for 2025/26 suggest further recovery by December, provided upstream conditions remain favourable.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) and the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) are expected to maintain tight coordination in managing dam releases, energy output, and downstream water needs.

Rising lake levels and strong Zambezi inflows mark a welcome development for Zimbabwe and the region, especially given the importance of Lake Kariba for power generation and regional water supply. While the situation remains below optimum, the current trend offers a strong foundation for improved hydrological performance in the coming months.

It is a bit offending for some to assume that just because people are of low means, they are lazy. The communities we help survive on less than $1 a day. It costs $75000 for others to build a classroom block, yet for us it is $25k, why? Because the work to make bricks, carry water, assist builders etc comes from the community for free.
What you are doing by helping us build decent schools is to break that cycle of poverty. In 10 yrs, those Grade 7 students would be graduating instead of being fish mongers or teen mothers.
