𝗣𝗚𝗦 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 : Marvel’s Wolverine

Another game from Insomniac for PS5! After five years of ups and downs, most notably the leaks, Marvel’s Wolverine is finally here. This time, Insomniac steps away from Marvel’s Spiderman to take on another iconic Marvel character.

Review Platform: PS5 Pro
Story: 12-13h
Platinum : 14-15h

𝑴𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 +15 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆:

🟢 Unlike some of the reactions online, Liam McIntyre’s portrayal of Logan is a strong one; Wolverine’s character and personality are exceptionally well
🟢 An engaging story with a decent amount of tension
🟢 Jean and Essex’s character development is one of the game’s strongest aspects
🟢 Amazing Original Soundtrack by David Fleming; notably Deathstrike’s theme during the boss fight
🟢 One of the later missions is particularly well-directed, adding meaningful depth to both the overall story and the game itself
🟢 Acceptable Variety of Enemies
🟢 Decent Combat Mechanics which doesn’t become repetitive during the game’s runtime
🟢 The game takes you through a diverse range of locations, particularly during the sections involving The Hand
🟢 High Variety of Outfits & Claws
🟢 The motorcycle and chase sequences provide a welcome change of pace and add some much-needed variety to the gameplay
🟢 One of the best PS5 Pro optimizations; combination of Fidelity Pro with Advanced Ray Tracing & Uncapped VRR is the best way to experience the game

🟡 Insomniac’s usual lackluster NPC facial designs are still present; the mutants introduced early on being a clear example
🟡 Skill Tree could have been more balanced and interesting
🟡 Nightmare Trials do not necessarily add any fun factor
🟡 Minor visual inconsistencies & bugs

🔴 The parry mechanics aren’t inherently bad and can be fun, but the game’s overreliance on them becomes tiresome, especially during boss fights
🔴 Boss Fights could have been better; especially their move set

Insomniac continues its impressive run of PS5 releases with Marvel’s Wolverine. Hopefully, future projects won’t be announced quite so early, making the wait for release easier and keeping expectations in check. That being said, Marvel’s Wolverine delivers an engaging superhero experience that should be a must-play for fans of the genre.

Final Score: 8.25/10
