🔥#ASCO24 sobering results from our recent effort
➡️Wildfires are a huge health hazard in some states, including California

➡️Research suggests that exposure to wildfire smoke, which contains fine particulate matter (PM2.5), may worsen outcomes of pts with cancer

➡️We decided to explore the effects of wildfire PM2.5 on GU cancer survival in the state of California

➡️We noted trends toward worse outcomes in several, significant in #kidneycancer, where daily PM2.5 concentration in the “moderate” range (details in poster below) had a 7.5% increased death hazard compared to those in the “good”HR=1.075; 95% CI= 1.006-1.149.
