AOC: The underlying bill reads as a commonsense proposal… that doesn’t seem so bad except the office that would be responsible for doing this has been DOGE’d.

What we’re seeing is some confusion from the Republican majority.. All of these offices have been cut, personnel eliminated because the Republican Party is saying this is wasteful, fraudulent.. yet the Republican majority continues to introduce bills to do things that they have deemed as wasteful

Phang: There’s a fantastic Texas Tribune article that reveals that the Trump administration knew the vast majority of the 238 Venezuelan immigrants sent to CECOT in mid-March had not been convicted of crimes in the U.S.—even though the administration wanted to label them as terrorists before deporting them.

The government’s own data showed that U.S. officials knew only 32 of the 238 deportees had ever been convicted of a crime in the U.S.—and most of those were for non-violent offenses like retail theft or traffic violations.

In addition, ProPublica and the Texas Tribune, working with Venezuelan media outlets, obtained lists of alleged gang members maintained by Venezuelan law enforcement and Interpol. Those lists included around 1,400 names—and none of the 238 Venezuelan deportees were on them.
