Tired of this excuse. First of all, social security is not something you “pay into.” If it were, you wouldn’t need younger people to “pay into it” in order to get your check. But you do. Because this is a Ponzi scheme, not a retirement account. What you really mean to say is that your money was stolen from you — which it was — and now you want to steal from younger people to get restitution. That’s the actual case you’re making and it’s exactly as morally deranged as it sounds.
Second, your generation continually for decades voted for politicians who would keep the scheme going. You might not have invented social security, but you damn sure made certain it kept going. Why should younger people have to pay the price for the shitty policies you supported?
Third, you “paid into” social security in a different time. The country is now bankrupted and 40 trillion dollars in debt, and basic things like housing are prohibitively expensive. It wasn’t like that when you were young, because your generation of leadership created this problem.
So the theme here is that there are a bunch of problems you guys either created or contributed to. You can choose to pay the price for that now, or force your grandchildren to pay the price so you can live comfortably until you die and leave them holding the bag. You’ve chosen the latter, and I think that’s wrong. Simple as that.
The existence of Jesus as a historical 1st-century Jewish preacher is the near-universal consensus among scholars of antiquity, including non-Christians and atheists. Pure mythicism remains a fringe view with virtually no academic support. Divinity is a faith claim outside historical method, so labeling him a "fake god" presupposes the conclusion rather than following from the evidence of the person and the movement he launched.
Relatively makes YEC or OEC arguably irrelevant. Been saying this for a long time. To argue so intensely about it is really silly, and it distracts from the wonder that is creation.
The earth was already floating in space before God even said “Let there be light,” according to Genesis. Could’ve been there for eons, for all we know. Also, a plain reading of scripture allows for the possibility of long stretches of time in between each of the 6 days. Also, if God expanded the universe from a singularity, it could’ve done all kinds of wild things with time. Earth might have experienced a billion years from its vantage point in one day from another vantage point. Who knows? One thing I know is I wasn’t there!
The reason anyone gets insanely rich is almost always because of the stock market. It certainly how @elonmusk did.
And the reason they get rich from the stock market, is because 150m Americans decided they wanted to own shares of stocks directly, or through their retirement plans, or through other approaches as a way of building their net worth and trying to create a better life for themselves.
One Hundred Fifty Million Americans. About 60% of adults.
Effectively believing that @elonmusk and many billionaires could make them wealthier and help them achieve a better life.
If you want @elonmusk , and most billionaires to no longer be that rich, convince those 150m to sell their stocks, funds, ETFs whatever.
Of course you would wipe out the net-worth of most of those people, and everyone else’s savings, as the markets crashed and brought down the economy and created the worst depression we have ever seen.
Alternatively
There are ways to improve healthcare access and eventually make it available to all.
To start -
If you want @elonmusk and all billionaires to improve healthcare for everyone , ask them to stop doing business with the enormous healthcare conglomerates and to work directly with transparently priced care providers.
It’s the behemoth HC conglomerates that make HC so bad for so many. (Check my timeline for more detail)
Removing them would push the cost of healthcare down for everyone. Their corporate decisions impact our healthcare cost and availability.
Of course if they do that, not only would our HC costs go down , and the quality of care for their employees and the entire country go up
But
They would see their corporate cash flow increase dramatically and we would have more millionaires, billionaires and maybe even another trillionaire when that cash flow moved from the big health care conglomerates to their bottom line, so would the net worth of the 150 million American adults that own public stocks
Capitalism is better than socialism because 150m Americans can influence exactly what happens in this country.
Political violence is a feature, not a bug of progressivism.
Because progressivism is built on top of a Critical Theory lens that sees the world through "Oppressed vs Oppressor" categories rather than a Christian Theology lens of "Right vs Wrong", it trains people to see opponents not as mistaken, but as evil oppressors.
If you believe someone is mistaken, you try to persuade them (what @charliekirk11 did).
If you believe someone is an evil oppressor ("literally Hitler!", "fascist", "existential threat to democracy", virtually everything and everyone is "racist"), you will feel a moral obligation to stop them.
This is why there is radically disproportionate violence emerging on the Left.
The left will simultaneously stand outside an event with signs promoting political murder, hysterically scream about impending fascism, do podcast interviews explaining why political murder is justified, and explain why assassination victims had it coming, then also confidently declare that when one of their own takes them literally and attempts an assassination, that it must be staged.
To recap, from the standpoint of local time:
Shot down early on Good Friday. Rescued Easter Sunday morning.
If it were a movie plot, we'd roll our eyes at it for being too on the nose but here we are in real life...
🚨 MUST SEE THIS FOOTAGE! Kuwaiti locals greet one of the U.S. F-15 pilots who ejected last night following the friendly fire incident.
Look at the smile on the face of that American hero. 🫡
LOCAL TO PILOT: "You are safe. Thank you for helping us"
I don’t follow hockey, but this had me tearing up. They brought their teammate’s (who was killed by a drunk driver) kids out onto the ice with their dad’s jersey to celebrate the moment. 🥹
So my question: How do I effectively combat my future in-laws behavior and speech towards my fiancee, while still maintaining enough of the relationship that my in-laws don't restrict my fiancee's relationship with her sisters?
"Five months is really fast for an engagement, you all should really push it off another year."
"You know, it might be fine for a couple years, but eventually your problem with authority is going to cause issues in your marriage."
"You say you'll be better every year, but it never happens, so why should I believe it this time?"
"If you have a joint account with your fiance, how do we know you aren't doing other married people things?" (A joint account for wedding expenses is Dave Ramsey advice)
My fiancee's mom is a minister at our church, so talking about this with my go-to advisors would be tricky.
I believe my fiancee's parents have a history of controlling and spiritually manipulative behavior towards her and her younger sisters.
It's gotten to the point that I've asked my fiancee to start writing down some of the things they've said to her.
Her mom has a tendency to say things to her like:
"Don't quote the Bible to me, I know what it says."
Statement on Video Depicting the Obamas
I just spoke directly with President Trump regarding the offensive Obama ape video that circulated online. The President assured me clearly and unequivocally that he did not post it. He understands the painful and racist history in America of depicting African Americans as apes, a tactic long used by white supremacists to demean Black intelligence and humanity. He knows this is wrong, offensive, and unacceptable.
The President made it clear to me that this post was made by a staffer and not by him. My recommendation to the President was direct and firm. That staffer should be fired immediately, and the President should publicly condemn this action. This kind of insensitive and racist communication does not reflect the heart, values, or leadership of the President of the United States, nor does it represent the America we are striving to build.
Historically, the intelligence of Black Americans has been questioned and attacked in shameful ways. From the era of slavery, when enslaved Africans were falsely portrayed as inferior to justify bondage, to the Civil War, when Black Union soldiers were often denied officer ranks despite bravery and leadership, to the Jim Crow era, where racist pseudoscience compared Black people to animals in textbooks, cartoons, and propaganda. Even into the modern era, these same ugly stereotypes have been recycled to undermine Black achievement, leadership, and dignity.
Racism must be confronted, not excused. Accountability matters. And leaders must always speak clearly when lines are crossed. #SpiritualDiplomat
My advice to the President and his team is very simple. Repeat after me: “We are at this point because the State of Minnesota and City of Minneapolis continue to harbor illegal aliens the American people want deported. The deaths of American citizens are tragic and made more tragic by the Governor and Mayor whipping activists into a frenzy to stop the federal government from enforcing the laws Minnesota and Minneapolis refuse to enforce. Neither Ms. Good nor Mr. Pretti would be dead and the border patrol would not be roaming the streets of Minnesota if the state government cooperated with the federal government’s effort to deport illegal aliens. We will not cease enforcement of federal law because of a mob. The American people voted in November of 2024 for a change of direction away from open borders and mass illegal migration into the country. Kamala Harris’s Vice Presidential nominee is not just rejecting the will of the voters, but inflaming the situation in Minnesota, inspiring vigilantes who are getting harmed and killed while ICE and Border Patrol agents are increasingly under threat.” Then let Homan take the lead and send Bovino elsewhere.
You don’t have to attack anyone, seed a narrative that may be false, or be defensive if you just repeat that line over and over because that is the truth and so much else is propaganda.
