கடந்த 50 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக மதுவிலக்கிற்காக, போராட்டம், பிரச்சாரம், சத்தியாகிரகம், பாதயாத்திரை என பல்வேறு அகிம்சை வழிகளில் குரல் கொடுத்து வருகிறார். சேலத்திலிருந்து சபர்மதி, சேலத்திலிருந்து மதுரை என பல நீண்ட பாதயாத்திரைகளை மேற்கொண்டு, மக்களிடையே மதுவிற்கு எதிரான விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளார்.

திருக்குறளின் 1330 குறள்களைப் போலவே, 1330 நாட்கள் தினமும் 1½ மணி நேரம் காந்தி சிலை முன்பு மதுவுக்கும் போதைப்பொருள்களுக்கும் எதிராக பதாகை ஏந்தி நின்று விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். தமது 95 வயதிலும், மது உள்ளிட்ட போதைப்பொருள்களுக்கு எதிரான அவரது மன உறுதி, இளைய தலைமுறைக்கு முன்னுதாரணம்.

ஒரு மனிதர் தனது வாழ்நாளையே சமூகத்தின் நலனுக்காக அர்ப்பணித்திருப்பது மிகப்பெரிய தியாகம். ஐயா டாக்டர் பிராங்க்ளின் ஆசாத் காந்தி அவர்களின் மதுவிலக்கு போராட்டத்திற்கு தலைவணங்கி, அவரது ஐம்பது ஆண்டுகளைக் கடந்த மேலான சமூகப் பணிகளுக்கு, எங்களது மனமார்ந்த பாராட்டுகளையும் நன்றியையும் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறோம்.

Two things stood out listening to Annamalai speak at Indian Army veteran, Major Madhan’s book release.

First - He confirmed what I said 1½ months ago. Annamalai has made his position clear - he is both a Tamilian and an Indian. His vision is for a political movement that strongly represents Tamil identity, rights and aspirations while remaining firmly rooted in Indian nationalism.

Second - It reinforced just how massive a loss the BJP-TN has suffered by losing Annamalai.

He spoke about the impact of Operation Sindoor with actual numbers. This is exactly the kind of message that needs to reach people.

India’s defence exports:

2021–22 — ₹12,814 Cr
2022–23 — ₹15,920 Cr
2023–24 — ₹21,083 Cr
2024–25 — ₹23,622 Cr
2025–26 — ₹38,424 Cr

Operation Sindoor came in May 2025.
The jump in FY2025–26 is staggering: +63% in one year.

This is exactly the kind of story the BJP TN should be telling. But listening to Annamalai, it struck me that no one has articulated it as clearly and eloquently as he did.
