This is about far more than terminology. Medicine must recommit to physician-led care, clearly defined scopes of practice, and honest representation of credentials and training. “Residency” and “fellowship” denote the rigorous postgraduate training of physicians and should not be repurposed for nonphysician programs in ways that blur meaningful distinctions for patients. We need stronger title-protection and title-misappropriation legislation so patients can readily understand who is—and is not—a physician. Clarity is not disrespectful; it is fundamental to informed consent and patient safety.

Implore the journalist to include all the physicians involved in her care, including the anesthsia team. Anesthesiologists in these situations are commonly overlooked, likely for a few reasons including the fact not a lot of people understand what they do and when they do their job well it is in the background. The ultimate outcome is amazing and deserves to be highlighted! Mom and baby are safe and thriving. Just a note to the writer - the anesthsia team is critical.
