@JohnBogleyDC @secularprolife Granted. What if I was a baby left at a fire station or some other safe place? The mother is gone and she won't be prosecuted for abandoning her baby. But it will take time to get the baby a birth certificate. Is the baby a non-person until then?

@JohnBogleyDC @secularprolife Wow. I was born in 1956 and didn't have to get an SSN until my first paying job in 1974. The government *now* requires parents to get SSNs for their children in order to claim them on taxes, but that doesn't mean that they weren't legal persons earlier.
