@WillitsLab@NU_ChemE Great question! We are testing our design with polypropylene but believe it should work for all plastics as the ferrofluid is thoroughly mixed and the nonpolar oil base is more attractive to the plastics than water! Thanks for the catch on the microplastics stream!🧠
@MilkyWayChemE@NU_ChemE Hey, thanks! There are no existing standards for how microplastics should be disposed of, but @CHME4703GROUP20 is working on a way to recycle ocean plastics! Otherwise, they can be contained indefinitely, similar to nuclear waste!☢️
@CncGane@NU_ChemE Hey, thanks! Our process is being incorporated into existing wastewater treatment plants so many safety concerns are already addressed in existing measures, though additional training will be provided for new steps! Ferrofluid is nontoxic and level controls will be used!👩🔧👨🔧
