If you're 70% through your PhD and thinking of postdocs, my advice is to avoid something so similar it's redundant or so different you're starting over. The ideal postdoc is the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be.
@sreshthamondal@PhDVoice@phdxlife@phdlife@AcademicChatter@OpenAcademics@PostdocVoice - Set Context & Reasons WHY
- Explain the HOW & WHAT
- Share Findings & Results
- Highlight the Potential Impact of your work
Additional Advice
- Use layman language
- Make it relatable (possibly include a story, people relate well with stories)
- Practice! Practice! Practice
My team has just updated our already large database of PhD/Graduate fellowships and graduate student research funding opportunities.
We found 200.
For each fellowship, we provide link, description, deadline, eligibility, etc.

Here is a 🧵 of terms related to money/funding in academia that no one explained to me until I was applying for faculty jobs (or after I'd started), that I pretended to understand until then, and that would’ve been very helpful to learn earlier than I did.
1/a whole bunch
I just reviewed another paper that was clearly a term paper. And it was probably a great term paper! But it was a terrible academic paper. Grad students, here are some tips for turning a term paper into a peer-reviewed article *before* you send it out:
🥳🥳 Congratulations to our very own @jen__ding for **DEFENDING** today and becoming **DR. JEN DING** What a stellar defense, leaving all of us in awe! A new chapter has now begun!!!!! Congrats Jen!! #phdchat#AcademicTwitter#neuroscience 🥳🥳
@GlobalResearchN Hiiiii!! This is an account on promoting healthy academic cultures. Re research: Its a combo set of items including — why do we remember what we remember? — how does discrimination form? — how do we see what we see? #phdchat
@MarninaW@PhDVoice YES! I call them self-care days: make a list of all the things you can do like cleaning your closet, decorating your room, calling that friend you haven't in a while, going out and having good food, hanging with people etc, and do them! You just need to have fun on these days.
We updated and expanded our expansive database of graduate fellowships.
We have found 198 different types of PhD fellowships, listing the focus, eligibility criteria, amount, and deadline.

I am applying to grad school for the fall22 cycle, but my GRE scores are 👎. My CV is strong with 6 pubs, 3 papers in prep, 5yrs research experience, 3.8gpa. Is it necessary to take this (mentally&$$) draining test again? #AcademicTwitter#psychtwitter
@MadeleineMil5 Many programs don’t care about GRE anymore (finally!). I feel like it should only ever be used to positively interpret candidates in every case; useful if you don’t have much to show (late start); useless if you have much to show (your case).
