MEDIA STATEMENT: Julius Malema to face criminal prosecution for falsely accusing Bergview principal of rape
Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, will face criminal prosecution after falsely accusing a school principal of rape. AfriForumโs Private Prosecution Unit has succeeded in convincing the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that Malema should be prosecuted for crimen injuria after branding Jaco Pieterse, former Principal of Bergview College in Matatiele, a serial child rapist.
With the support of the unit, Pieterse laid the criminal complaint at the Sophiatown Police Station in June last year. When a decision to prosecute Malema was not forthcoming, the unit made the representation to the NPA.
Similar criminal complaints were also lodged against Fikile Mbalula, Secretary-General of the ANC, and Fundile Gade, MEC for Education in the Eastern Cape, for making the same false allegation.
The complaint against Malema stems from statements he made on 6 April 2025 at the partyโs Land Reclamation Day at the Sophiatown Extreme Park in Johannesburg. At this event, Malema publicly claimed that a school principal raped a seven-year-old girl and alleged that the principal was being treated differently from other suspects. Malema also suggested that the principal may have committed similar offences in the past.
The case involves a child who, according to her motherโs allegations, was raped at Bergview College in October 2024. Pieterse and the school caretaker โ whom the unit also represents โ became the targets of a vicious social media campaign in November of that year after the NPA declined to prosecute the case due to a lack of evidence. In May of last year, the NPA confirmed that it had decided not to prosecute anyone in connection with the alleged rape because, according to the NPAโs spokesperson, โthere is no evidence of rape or sexual assault after the minor girl was interviewed and examined by medical practitioners and forensic social workers.โ
In the representations to the NPA on 18 June 2026, Advocate Gerrie Nel, Head of the unit, referred to Malemaโs own approaches to the courts after he was publicly branded a drug dealer. โMalema, in his own words, has demonstrated a full appreciation of the profound impact false allegations of criminal impropriety have on the dignity of a person โ because he has experienced it himself and has asked the courts to intervene. Malema understands that being falsely branded a criminal violates the fundamental human right to dignity and argues that such a right is worthy of protection,โ said Nel.
Nel argued that Malema also took swift steps to protect his dignity when a so-called celebrity-blogger publicly claimed that the politician and his wife were experiencing marital strife and were on the verge of divorce. โMalemaโs lawyers said the claims subjected his children to โemotional harm and public scrutinyโ, adding that Malema has been exposed to โridicule, speculation, humiliation and reputational harm on a mass scale.โ The court agreed with Malema and ordered the blogger to apologise and retract the statements.
โIn this matter when Malema served a letter of demand on (the blogger), he also threatened to file a criminal complaint of crimen injuria with the South African Police Service (SAPS). Thus, well-informed of his right to dignity and privacy, he, without cause and on a public platform, called Pieterse a โrapistโ,โ concluded Nel.
After hearing news of the NPAโs decision, Pieterse said it has lifted a huge weight off his shoulders and takes him another step closer to justice. โThe false allegations have not only harmed me but have also caused immense pain to my family and friends. I trust that this process will vindicate me and ensure there is accountability for those who falsely accused others of committing vile crimes without any regard for the consequences. I hope the courts send a strong message that there are consequences for making such reckless and damaging allegations. Iโve become aware of many others who have experienced, and still experience daily, similar pain because of the thoughtless behaviour of so-called leaders. My hope is that this case will help protect ordinary citizens against politicians and people in power and hold them accountable,โ said Pieterse.
The instruction has been given to the Chief Prosecutor at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court to initiate prosecutions against Malema. It is not yet known when the matter will be enrolled.
While the private prosecution unit is satisfied with the decision to prosecute Malema, it will continue its engagements with the NPA to ensure that both Mbalula and Gade are also prosecuted. The unit remains steadfast in its belief that no person should be shielded from prosecution because of their political connections or status in society.
South Africaโs dirty power grid a laggard along with the likes of Kazakhstan. The share of clean renewable energy is growing but @Eskom_SAโs coal power stations still dominate and none of them meet even SAโs lax Air Quality Minimum Emission Standards.

Most of these guys, when they are arrested, they sell their clothes and sneakers like Gucci so they can get out of jail..
1. Learn the person you are dating.
Learn everything about them. Their fears, their flaws, their triggers, their attachment style. Do not assume you know them. Do not project what you want them to be. Study them. Because love is not just about feeling. It is about knowing. And you cannot truly love someone you have not taken the time to understand.
2. Only help to change someone who is willing to change.
You cannot fix someone who does not want to be fixed. You cannot heal someone who does not want to heal. You cannot save someone who is comfortable drowning. So stop wasting your energy on people who are not ready to grow. Your love is not a rehabilitation center. It is a partnership.
3. Apologies become noise when changes are not made.
"I'm sorry" means nothing without follow-through. It is just words. It is just a performance. If they keep apologizing for the same thing, they are not sorry. They are just hoping you will stay. Do not accept apologies that are not backed by change. Because change is the only proof that they truly care.
4. Learn to love them how they want to be loved, even if it does not make sense to you.
Your love language is not the only language. Just because something feels like love to you does not mean it feels like love to them. Pay attention. Ask questions. Learn what makes them feel seen, valued, and safe. Then do that. Even if it feels unnatural. Even if it is not your instinct. Because love is not about giving what you want to give. It is about giving what they need to receive.
5. Know when to leave.
Love is not about staying at all costs. Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do is walk away. When the relationship is draining you, when you have outgrown each other, when they are not showing up, when you have given all you can giveโknow when to leave. Not because you gave up. But because you finally chose yourself.
6. Avoid people who are unappreciative of your efforts. They will drain you.
You cannot pour into someone who does not see your effort. You cannot give to someone who does not value what you bring. They will take and take and take, and they will never be satisfied. And you will be left empty, wondering why you gave so much to someone who gave nothing back. Do not stay there. Do not stay with people who make you feel like your effort is invisible.
7. Avoid people who forget the good you do and only focus on what you did not do. They will drain you.
Some people will never be satisfied. You can give them 80%, and they will focus on the 20% you did not give. You can show up every single day, and they will remember the one day you could not. That is not love. That is entitlement. And you will exhaust yourself trying to fill a cup that has a hole at the bottom. So stop trying. Save your energy for someone who actually sees you.

UEFA have confirmed that they are aware of an allegation that European football's governing paid off an alleged mistress of Gianni Infantino.
The Telegraph are reporting that while Infantino was general secretary at UEFA, a woman who was allegedly in a relationship with the now FIFA president received a six figure sum.
According to The Telegraph, UEFA paid for the individuals MBA after she left.
In a statement to The Telegraph, a FIFA spokesperson said: โFIFA president Gianni Infantino strongly denies these allegations, and they are categorically untrue. Any insinuation of inappropriate conduct or violation of statutes or regulations is defamatory.
"No employee at UEFA and FIFA has ever raised a complaint regarding Mr Infantinoโs behaviour because there never was an incident where he was involved. All company actions related to employees, including any departure and severance packages, have always been approved by the appropriate directors in accordance with all applicable regulations."
UEFA told Sky Sports News that an individual was paid but this was in line with regulations at the time - which have since be tightened.
In a statement to Sky Sports News, UEFA said: "We are aware of the allegations and can confirm a departure payment was made to the individual in question, coupled with the payment of fees for a MBA course at a local business school.
"The payment was in line with the regulations that existed for departing staff at the time. ย Such regulations have been tightened since 2016 and the current staff regulations - which apply to all UEFA employees at whatever level - reflect those found in a modern, high-profile organisation."
Infantino worked at UEFA from 2000, until leaving in 2016, when he took up his current role at FIFA.
FIFA has been contacted for comment by Sky Sports News.
