It was great joining Njideka Akunyili Crosby โ a gifted Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based artist โ to unveil our first portrait together. This piece reflects so many chapters of Michelle and my story, and weโre thrilled that it will be on display in the Hope and Change lobby at the Obama Presidential Center starting this Juneteenth.
Barack and I were so honored to have @AkunyiliCrosby create our portrait for the Obama Presidential Center. Her artistic brilliance shines through โ and the way she infused such life and joy into the piece is truly extraordinary. We love it, and we think everyone who visits the Center will too!
When a family in Vermont reached out to Baltimore restaurant owner Steve Chu asking for the recipe of a favorite dish enjoyed by their terminally ill loved one, they expected instructions.
Instead, they received something far more meaningful.
Steve Chu, co-owner of Ekiben, loaded his truck with ingredients and drove nearly six hours from Baltimore to Vermont.
Along with his team, he set up a makeshift kitchen outside the woman's home and prepared her beloved meal fresh on-site.
They refused payment and simply wanted to bring comfort and happiness during a difficult time.
What began as a request for a recipe became an unforgettable act of compassion, proving that kindness often travels much farther than anyone expects.

I'm thinking about the loved ones of the 49 souls killed 10 years ago, Orlando, and the LGBTQ community who are scarred from this tragedy.
Everyone should be able to live freely and authentically without fear for their safety.
We still have work to do to build that America.

This heart-warming moment was captured during Porto Pride 2024. A local resident came out of their home to hold up a Portuguese flag.
Reportedly, some people passing by were first worried he was attempting to disparage the march, but instead, he called for someone in the crowd and gifted them his flag. In exchange, the person gave him their LGBTQ+ flag, with the two embracing in a hug.
