Sir, the idea sounds patriotic(i side with eating what we grow and growing what we eat), but it cuts both ways.

A mandate for restaurants and hotels to use only Ghana-made chicken would boost local farmers, create jobs, reduce imports, and strengthen the agricultural economy. It could also build a stronger national food identity and keep more foreign exchange in the country.

The challenge is capacity. Ghana’s poultry industry currently can’t supply enough chicken at the price, volume, or consistency hotels and restaurants need. Forcing it overnight would raise prices, strain businesses, invite smuggling, and risk trade complications.

The smarter path is not a sudden mandate, but a gradual build-up of local production with incentives, support, and phased targets. When the industry grows strong enough, businesses will naturally choose local chicken because it makes economic sense, not because they are compelled.
