And this is why that “YN” shit was never funny and always just rhetorical support for existing racism but tell me more about the “no real world impact” of adults casting Black children as savage, violent criminals everybody should fear and “protect” themselves from by any means
We definitely need to reframe how we view violence. You telling your city council you don’t want a data center in your community and they vote for it in anyway, is violence. So beat the asses for it. They want to shave years off your life, return the favor
Ring paid somewhere between $8 and $10 million for a 30-second Super Bowl spot to tell 120 million viewers that their cameras now scan neighborhoods using AI.
The math is wild. Ring has roughly 20 million devices in American homes. Search Party is enabled by default. The opt-out rate on default settings in consumer tech is historically around 5%. So approximately 19 million cameras are now running AI pattern matching on anything that moves past your front door. Today the target is dogs. The same infrastructure already handles “Familiar Faces,” which builds biometric profiles of every person your camera sees, whether they know about it or not.
Ring settled with the FTC for $5.8 million after employees had unrestricted access to customers’ bedroom and bathroom footage for years. They’re now partnered with Flock Safety, which routes footage to local law enforcement. ICE has accessed Flock data through local police departments acting as intermediaries. Senator Markey’s investigation found Ring’s privacy protections only apply to device owners. If you’re a neighbor, a delivery driver, a passerby, you have no rights and no recourse.
This tells you everything about Amazon’s actual product. The customer paid for the camera. The customer pays the electricity. The customer pays the $3.99/month subscription. And Amazon gets a surveillance grid that would cost tens of billions to build from scratch, with an AI layer activated by default, and a law enforcement pipeline already connected.
They wrapped all of that in a lost puppy commercial because that’s the only version of this story anyone would willingly opt into.
It’s honestly jarring watching Americans beg the police/national guard to intervene or for mayors and governors to do something. Like is there mass psychosis in the water? When ICE was out of the equation, who was shooting & beating y’all during protests? and under whose mandate?
TODAY: Hundreds of thousands in Minnesota braved -10°F weather to march through downtown Minneapolis as part of the statewide general strike demanding ICE out of the Twin Cities.
Should I ever be murdered by the state, I want it to be known I do want vengeance. I want people to make whatever decisions they feel necessary, in righteous anger and rage. I wouldn’t want y’all to be peaceful, accept any apologies, or forgive my murderer. I don’t forgive them.
You're not creating anything with AI, you're exploring an infinite library of other people's works and laying claim to anything you find there because you feel like you put effort into the search.
it terrifies me how many talented people are contributing to a future they wouldn't want to live in. building something addictive. exploitative. destructive. something they'll ban their own kids from using. and for what? a paycheck? surely there's a better way to use your gifts?
“People get used to anything. The less you think about your oppression, the more your tolerance for it grows. After a while, people just think oppression is the normal state of things. But to become free, you have to be acutely aware of being a slave.” - Assata Shakur
it's so impressive that ADHD will find ways to rob you of your free time that you can't even fathom until you can only look back on the months, years of free time it's taken away from you bc it's too late. and every single way is comically stupid. genuinely embarrassing disorder
Getting on the wrong floor to commit a mass shooting at the NFL HQ bc you have CTE & accidentally becoming Luigi mangione for the real estate industry, neither Shakespeare nor Scorsese could have conceived such an outcome
