@cspanhistory True. The entry of France, followed by Spain and the United Provinces, was absolutely essential financially to the support of the American Revolution.

@cspanhistory @cspanhistory, recognition by France following the victory at Saratoga was absolutely essential to the American cause, and brought about the almost immediate Treaty of Versailles of 1778, negotiated by Benjamin Franklin (one of the Five Great Documents of the American Revolution)
