So along with myself (https://t.co/qppMDPgH4F) I moved my soccer lineal championship side project over to @bluesky. Keeping track of who holds the MLS, NWSL, USL, USL League 1, USL Super League, and MLS Next Pro belts in one account.

Tennis has the tech, American football and basketball have set boundaries where if you have a toe out of bounds it’s out or a toe on the three point line is a two. Allowing a goal based on…vibes just sounds very participatory trophy.
For all of the complaints about technology’s involvement with offside, two facts remain true:
1. It’s the only part of the game that is refereed with 100% accuracy.
2. The assistant referee got it right on the field without technology. Tech only confirmed it was correct
I am all for getting calls right; but this feels like we’ve gone too far. For me, VAR is meant to correct clear and obvious errors. No way the naked eye will ever see something this close and rule it off and I don’t think it’s in the spirit or best interest of this game to get the microscope out and rule something like this back.
I don’t know where you could draw the threshold of “how much of a limb” or “what part” has to be at X amount off offside to make that ruling during a review so maybe that’s why the rule is as it is. But I still struggle a bit to see this as the “right” call even if it is by the letter of the law.
You can keep the line where it is, make it 10 cm, have daylight, or make it a mile. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A LINE where it's either offside or not. When it's close people will complain about it. Moving the goalposts is not a solution. Just means we complain about a different spot.
I’m sorry but this is completely and utterly against the spirit of the game. The player gained absolutely no advantage here.
@TheIFAB can’t rewrite the offside rule fast enough to take into consideration the Wenger Law.
I mean come on, his toenail is offside.
Telling auto glass repair owners to break into cars to increase business is a textbook Nathan For You idea. And then Nathan would spend most of the episode with Judge Anthony Filosa trying to figure out a way that it’s legal.
A decline in car break-ins across Oakland is being welcomed as a public safety win, but it is also contributing to a downturn for some local auto glass repair businesses. https://t.co/14r7UeCpS1
I get people either not able to stream or not wanting to stream. And if you someday have to pay for multiple streaming services to get the full NASCAR season that can be a pain.
But as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."
Kind words from a friend…
Yes, I learned in late May that I would not be back.
It was unexpected and I’m devastated.
I enjoy every opportunity to cover this sport and I look forward to the next one.
@jilldubs@bkoo It’s politics leading to rights negotiations. Fox is trying to show FIFA that ESPN doesn’t care about the World Cup while ESPN is trying to show FIFA that Fox won’t have the reach that they have if they get the rights.
One time, I covered the Gold Cup and sat next to a couple Jamaican reporters who openly cheered when they scored. Was unusual given the customs of not cheering in the press box but they had a great time when Jamaica won. Then they got on me for not cheering the US. Great people.
Fact is, Danhausen fits better with WWE than with AEW. Nothing wrong with that. I wished he featured more at AEW but it’s best for everyone he’s at WWE.
This is a bit of a copout. Yeah, AEW could’ve done much more with Danhausen but there was always going to be a ceiling.
Kudos to WWE for leveraging their ESPN partnership and capitalizing on him with the Knicks but even they didn’t expect this when they first signed the guy.
I'm just going to say it. National anthems at the World Cup should be instrumental. I don't care how good it sounds, give me the crowd and the players singing over someone on a microphone any day of the week.
This is the first World Cup I haven't worked professionally since 2010. 2022 really burned me out from writing but I seem to be getting the itch again.
@CalWilliamsComm I could be speaking nonsense but I feel like fan support of Xabi soured Liverpool on him because if they listened to the fans on ticket prices, and then sacked Slot, and then hired Xabi they may feel the fans have too much power. Had to make it seem like their decision.
Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.
He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Yeah clearly @NYCMayor didn’t make it to the show or else maybe someone would’ve gotten a heads up about a 15k person event letting out at 12:30 at night.
Fans forced to take a single ramp to access the 7 train and parking lot after @AEW Double or Nothing at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Not a single @MTA or @NYPD worker to assist with the crowd control.
