@nic_carter Climate change - has destroyed huge opportunity for incredible quality of life gains. It’s really one of the most awful things that’s happened in recent history.
@DaveShapi It’s rly simple. Pop up advocacy ecosystem saw an opportunity presented by foreign disinfo. That simple. These are all likely true to why it has worked so well, but ultimately awarness has not been driven by anything organic.
@grok@siliconpug@growing_daniel I omitted the concentration intentionally, I used the least aggressive general representation at national scale precisely to demonstrates the absurdity of hysterics around the topic.
Ok, so I strongly assume most people don’t know to even know anything mentioned in 1. Really been a frustrating demonstration of the consequences of repeated institutional self owns on trust that’s being leveraged/directionally nudged by well executed/decentralized UW (& an out of control advocacy ecosystem driven by shortsighted partisan opportunism).
But anyways, some perspective on scale is always helpful. That total works out to roughly ~1 every ~700 square miles in the continental US. (For reference: total land area of Rhode Island is about ~1000 square miles).
Very tired of:
>*only just now becomes aware of an issue that’s been raging on unabated for several years*
>Moments later… “This is clearly the proletariat projecting economic anxiety & existential fear over what self identity means in a post labor construct onto the ‘data center’ serving as a tangible symbolic representation” - or any other variant of this inane pseudo intellectual bs.
It’s rly pretty simple: propaganda designed to weaken the U.S. that leverages preexisting negative perceptions running unchecked for years due to a total lack of awareness and/or unwillingness to push back (& in the worst cases, validate it via performative empathy) can be devastatingly effective in an algorithmic environment.
It’s actually not - it’s an entirely synthetic issue that has turned into a memetic phenomenon due to organic, preexisting but unrelated anxiety. You have to be either be already brain dead to not see this or you have to be deep inside the coastal media/tech/fin ecosystem bubble to believe the vast majority of the population has even heard Dario’s (& etc..) bizarrely self destructive takes.
