Why has racial representation within the PA profession plummeted in the past decade? "The PA school admissions process, a system that rewards wealth and privilege at every turn, may be to blame," @HarrisonReedPA says in this commentary: https://t.co/D6bpK5hUsE

In a city where 40% of residents are black, Rite Aid vaccines have gone to 4% black residents and 87% white residents. Rite Aid is the second largest vaccine distributor in the city. Inequitable. https://t.co/U1UtKm4w6a
Even if every POC was afforded free standardized test prep prior to applying to grad school, you’ll likely still see racialized differences in test scores. By all means, let’s increase access to test prep for students from minoritized groups, but pls stop expecting miracles. 4/5
Doing well on standardized tests also requires a certain way of studying/learning; due to poverty, lack of study spaces, books, teachers, etc. many of our kids have adapted participatory ways of learning, processing & consolidating info that aren’t captured in these tests. 3/5
Standardized test taking is an acquired skill built over a lifetime. Many of our kids aren’t afforded the opportunity to build this skill in middle and high school. The reasons for this are complex and at the heart of it is racialized poverty and education inequity. 2/5
A 2-3 mo GRE, LSAT or MCAT prep course can’t fix 21 years of unequal schooling. Educators can’t expect Black, ESL, & inner-city students to get a perfect score bc they took a test prep course. The reality is many students who take them still don’t do well on these tests. 1/5🧵

This year, it’s more important than ever for our communities to get their flu vaccinations. We know in fact that less than 40% of minorities get the flu vaccine. As a result, thousands die and many more are hospitalized from a largely preventable disease.
