An open letter to Nationwide Building Society. I complained about the lack of tools to block gambling related transactions. Why don't they provide this as an option in 2021?! Please help me fight for this!

@KathyBurke thank you for your programme 'Money Talks' on #Channel4. But, please understand, if you allow gambling ads to be broadcast during the ad breaks of your programme you are also part of the problem. #poverty#addiction#gambling#mentalhealth
A huge thank you to @rustyrockets and @thebodycoach for this sunshine in a #podcast '24. Russell Brand: A true point of light.'

@DrSalGainsbury It is however, still possible for anyone, including minors to access gambling related content on YouTube, as the majority of that type of content is not behind an age verification gateway.
Within the eye of the flame you see more, feel more, heal more.
St John of the Cross | Stanza 1
Oh, living flame of love
How tenderly you wound
My soul within its inmost centre!
No longer so elusive,
Finish then, if you will
And rend the veil of this most sweet encounter!
@alice_beveridge@glitteryglow When we doubt ourselves it creates an opportunity to prove ourselves wrong. Focus on the positive you, the happy you, the best version of you, always. Never forget the strength you give to others, all because of you.
@monkey96_sea As you walk your path, judge only your actions. Your inner critic is the strictest judge. Learn to forgive, but not forget. Cast no judgement on others so you can use this freedom to forgive. #forgiveness#love#balance
20% of all insolvencies reported during Q1 2021 were caused by gambling! https://t.co/sffAOS0nZ6 Yet, Nationwide don't understand the importance of protecting vulnerable people and problem gamblers by blocking gambling transactions. Come on @AskNationwide get your act together!
@GamRegGB@AskNationwide please remind me why this is not something you provide your customers. Isn't it time you joined the likes of HSBC, LLoyds, Halifax etc. in an era of protecting your customers from gambling related harm?
Nationwide's response to blocking gambling transactions:
"It's not currently a regulatory requirement and as such not something we have to be able to offer."
Think you can beat the odds of gambling? 20% of all insolvencies reported during Q1 2021 were caused by gambling! https://t.co/sffAOS0nZ6 #gambling#corruption#cantbeatariggedsystem
@gamstopuk1@Key_147 Be sure to check out my help section on self-exclusions as I go beyond just GAMSTOP. Unfortunately regulations are fragmented, which furthers the harm caused by gambling.

@AskNationwide Let's not forget Natasha White. A gambler who killed herself, last year because of her gambling addiction. Her grieving parents stated, "Her bank failed her." A year later, Nationwide still doesn't think they are part of the problem! https://t.co/tOFVgaCVWf

@NadineAshworth Please advise that banks and building societies have no obligation to block gambling related transactions, so the likes of @AskNationwide don't bother because they don't have to. Makes me so sick.
@Lifeafterbettin - Suicide Is The No. 1 Killer Of Men Under 45 In The UK
- Men aged 45-49, of middle age within the UK, have been identified as the highest risk of suicide
- Men in the UK are three times more likely than women to take their own life

@Lifeafterbettin You have to be very careful now that you've stopped gambling. 1. Alcohol lowers inhibitions & leads to bad decisions 2. Be wary of cross-addictions. You might want to reflect on any other addiction you might have and determine whether it/they might impact on your success.
