WHAT HAPPENED TO TRUST IN RWANDA?

“One thing I’ve learned in Rwanda is to be patient and not to trust too easily.
After spending so many years here, I have experienced so many lies, and honestly, I still don’t understand it. When you lie, the first person you lie to is yourself.

You cannot truly develop when everything is built around lies. One lie requires another to protect it, then another, until it becomes bigger and bigger. Eventually, you may even start believing your own lies, while reality remains completely different.
What has surprised me most is how often I have encountered this in workplaces, relationships and many other aspects of life in Rwanda.

People need to think about the consequences. When someone experiences repeated dishonesty, eventually they walk away. You may think you have simply lost one person, but you could also be losing loyalty, opportunities, knowledge, creativity and someone who genuinely wanted to contribute.

And one thing I have learned is that lies eventually come out, one way or another. When they do, they can bring everything down and force you to start again from zero. Maybe this is one of the reasons why progress becomes difficult. Maybe.”
