Lots of this is good and overdue. Well done.
But abolishing trial by jury for thousands of citizens on the basis of no evidence, with no consultation and no explanation that stands up to scrutiny?
Not good.
Devastatingly, dangerously foolish, in fact.
@sarahsackman Do you really believe that abolishing juries for thousands of people accused of serious criminal offences is a “modest change”?
At least have the decency to admit that these are seismic reforms to our constitution. If we can’t debate honestly, what’s the point?
If you think you’ll never need a jury: think again.
I’ve represented: University students, business owners, teachers, prison officers, police officers, local politicians, nurses, mothers, builders & lawyers.
Juries aren’t there for other people. They’re a safeguard.
For you.
Trying to find any of my Goodreads friends (or Twitter friends I suppose) who are also on Storygraph.
I'd like to move over there more, but I don't know many people there yet...
🚨 Thursday’s elections prove it: First Past the Post is broken.
5 parties, chaotic results, millions left unrepresented.
We need Proportional Representation — NOW.
