Class account for Gen. Physics class at Harding High School, run by @AstroJasonG
Follow us as we explore how science can help change society for the better!
As a class we just finished two huge things:
1) Used Newton's Laws to calculate the best rocket to use for leaving Earth (based on cost, thrust, weight)
2) Used energy cons. to find the escape velocity for Earth so we can get on with exploring the universe!

What words describe a scientist? Student responses.
I hope you can feel the eye roll after I mentioned to students "Hey I think these words describe you!"
And finally a partial orbit of Earth before we start a Hohmann transfer to the moon.
Side note: This was made using #kerbalspaceprogram with all of the "realism" mods. All orbital dynamics and rocket parameters are "real life"

We are gearing up for a full week of thinking about women in @NASA !
Tomorrow students will be creating a "hiring checklist" of qualifications to be an astronaut that is both rigorous but equitable.
Happy #NationalInventorsDay! 💡
Did you know @Astro_Jeanette received patents for innovations to improve automobile safety?🚗
We can't wait to see her launch to the @Space_Station later this year on the 1st crewed flight of the Boeing Starliner. 🚀

So i can totally see a sticking point when explicitly teaching about women in STEM.
The data you might want to analyze with students is not readily available.
Today i spent 2.5 yours planning a 30 minute lesson on the history of women in NASA.
Summary of almost 100% of student reaction to the fact that NASA has struggled to include women in the space program:
"That's pretty dumb tbh"
But don't worry @NASA_Astronauts, tomorrow we're talking all about the positive steps NASA has taken and their successes
Students watched a video that outlined how NASA's lack of medium spacesuits which are used more by women
Student response: "NASA has the money to buy rocket ships that are so expensive and you're telling me you can't find the right size of a suit? That's an excuse right there"
