Risk of Glacial Lake Outburst in NEPAL 🇳🇵

As Rasuwa has received less than 7 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, local rain is not considered the cause of the flood. Officials suspect that a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Tibet caused a sudden surge of water into the Bhote Koshi River.

According to a 2020 study by ICIMOD-UNDP, there are 122 glacial lakes in the Bhote Koshi basin. It has not yet been confirmed which lake burst; the source is currently being identified through satellite imagery and technical analysis.

Severe damage is feared in Timure due to the floods and landslides. Precise figures regarding casualties and damage are currently being gathered.
