South Africa moves into Stage 6 again today.
This will inevitably do something to all of us.
Our collective mental state and sentiment will be filled with so many different emotions. Not good ones. Even if you are lucky enough to have some sort of battery, inverter, gennie or solar, we are still all impacted.
Our area will be off for 11.5 hours today.
Most of the intersections will stop working, so the traffic will be a nightmare. The cellphone signal will disappear. Many will not be able to cook. Some might even have their water switched off (due to power at the water pumps). And many small businesses won’t be able to function at all.
The anger, sadness and frustration will be palpable.
Simply put: we are all facing something very cruel and incredibly unkind. But we cannot let the cruel make us unkind. And we cannot let the unkind make us cruel.
If every person who reads this made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, and whoever you deal with, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary - the world really would be a better place.
And we all deserve a better place right now.
If we rise by lifting others, then I think it’s high time that we grab hold of each other and start lifting. Ja, I think we could all use a serious lift right now. Imagine that… like, imagine that today we all made a choice to lift each other up and help each other rise.
You see, I believe our only real job in this life is to help each other.
Our job is not to judge. Our job is not to figure out if someone deserves something. Our job is to lift the fallen, to restore the broken and to heal the hurting.
That's our job... to help each other succeed in life.
We rise by lifting others.
Okay. Love you. Bye.
Here's a shot of perspective for all of us.
Bryan (@Ideas_4change) was diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease when he was just 13 years old. He suffered a Kidney Infection at 21 and became completely reliant on oxygen at the age of 23.
Today - because of stage 6 loadshedding - he had to book himself into a hospital. Just to survive.
He replied to my Tweet and I asked him if I could re-post it so that you could all hear his story and send him some love.
Comment a little message for Bryan below - or visit his profile - to share some kindness with him.
Let's make his day a little brighter.
Okay. Love you. Bye.
If he’s too weak and scared to debate Chris Christie, how can you trust him to stand up and defend American interests on the world stage?

I must congratulate you @DStv - not only did you rebrand the worst app in history, but you managed to make it worse than before which I would've thought was impossible.
Your streaming app is literally the worst product I've ever used in my life.
Sending #Zuma back to jail will serve no purpose.
Other than again make him a martyr to his narrow-minded supporters.
And risk a rerun of the #JulyRiots
He went to jail. Spent some time under #HouseArrest.
Let it go.
He and his family don’t deserve our attention anymore
