Today is the last day for public comment on PA governor Shapiro's over reaching public health policy proposed changes.

Shapiro is using measles cases and fear of “measles-associated” deaths to justify an administrative-state power grab. That fear is the pretext. The regulation is the product.

As proposed, his DOH would claim authority to:
-Enter homes, schools, and businesses without a warrant
-Speak to students without parents present
-Access private health records
-Build a statewide vaccination database
-Impose mask mandates unilaterally

Governor Shapiro has chosen to politicize this outbreak instead of implementing a unified public health response. He continues to point the finger at me and the federal government and to malign the Amish while refusing the federal assistance that might help end the outbreak.

I have offered the Governor CDC Epi-Aid, which would put CDC epidemiologists on the ground to help the state respond. Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, Kansas, New Mexico, and Wisconsin requested Epi-Aids and worked alongside CDC teams to help bring their outbreaks rapidly and successfully under control.

Governor Shapiro’s claim that I directed CDC to suppress Pennsylvania deaths is false. CDC is applying a consistent national standard rather than allowing politicians to decide which deaths appear in federal mortality statistics. CDC will report measles-caused deaths when the National Center for Health Statistics reports measles as the underlying cause based on death record information submitted by the states.

CDC’s MMR recommendation remains unchanged. I have repeatedly stated that MMR vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles infection.

Pennsylvanians deserve accurate, evidence-based public health information—not political grandstanding.

“Approximately 5% of individuals vaccinated with a measles-containing vaccine develop fever
and rash that can be clinically indistinguishable from measles infection.”
3. Have they checked the type of measles - vaccine vs wild ?
Again according to cdc -“Serologic assays and currently used
diagnostic measles virus RT-qPCR assays (MeV assay) cannot distinguish between vaccine
reactions and infections with wild-type virus. However, rapid differentiation of vaccine reactions
from infections with virus is critical “

Genotyping to differentiate between wild and vaccine measles is available.
“RT-qPCR assay for specific detection of measles vaccine strains that is a more rapid alternative to genotyping and can discriminate
between vaccine reactions and wild-type measles infections within hours instead of days.4 This
assay (MeVA test) detects regions of the nucleoprotein gene that are specific to and conserved
among measles vaccine strains, which are member of genotype A.”
