After all the tragedy, uncertainty, pain, suffering, separation, and tears, to give us a wedding at the end of it all felt like a balm to the soul. It felt like a promise:

While I was editing this, what struck me the most was the way ChangYang was holding and caressing QingLang’s hand and fingers. It immediately reminded me of Jingyu doing the exact same thing while comforting a visibly upset Yiwen during one of their lives, when they had been followed by sasaengs and their studio was scolding them for running away.

And honestly, I couldn’t concentrate after that because my mind went straight back to the question of just how much character bleed these two might have experienced while filming this entire series.

Based on everything we’ve observed in previous scenes, there have been quite a few moments when I genuinely couldn’t tell whether I was watching ChangYang and QingLang or Jingyu and Yiwen.

And perhaps that’s inevitable.
⠀
The story, the circumstances, and even the emotions these characters experience feel incredibly real and relatable. When actors are immersed in material that resonates with them so deeply, I imagine it becomes difficult to completely separate yourself from the character.

I'm somewhat reminded of this quote from Audrey Hepburn:

“Actually, you have to be a little bit in love with your leading man and vice versa. If you’re going to portray love, you have to feel it. You can’t do it any other way.”

I’m not saying—or advocating—that those feelings have to extend beyond the set. What I mean is that you have to believe in the emotion yourself before you can convince an audience to believe in it too.

And whatever happened behind the scenes, I think Jingyu and Yiwen clearly understood the emotional truth of what they were portraying.
⠀
Their conversations as ChangYang and QingLang never fail to stir something in me, and this scene was no exception. I was genuinely tearing up watching QingLang search for reassurance that their impending separation wouldn’t leave him alone all over again.

And ChangYang, of course, is doing what he always does: trying to give QingLang something to hold on to.
⠀
Pre-scheduled messages that would continue for a hundred years?

A HUNDRED YEARS😭

And honestly, I don’t even think ChangYang was exaggerating. That man would probably schedule messages until the end of time just to make sure QingLang never has to wake up feeling forgotten.

I think I finally understand why criticism of this series sometimes hits us so personally. Well… I do, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. 😂

Some simply entertain you.
