been thinking about chat GPT. i’ve used it for brainstorming travel, writing the first chapter of my book, and creating cover letters for job hunting. here are some very brief thoughts

chatGPT feeds off the ideas. the more you put in, the more you get out of it. it’s not going to write a novel for you (i tried) but it hugely helped in helping me think of characters and storylines, as well as measuring the skill of my writing.

i think the important factor in chat gpt and similar models like this, is that we don’t simply use it to do the thinking for you. rather, use it as a catalyst, a brain storming partner. that’s where the results get good.

id simply paste a paragraph i had written, and ask for ‘constructive criticism’. these seem to me to be the keywords. the AI would go through my writing and pick out things that could improve. sometimes i disagreed, but oftentimes it did make me think more.
