LYCOPENE; The cancer fighter in red colour fruits.
~Tomatoes ,Watermelon,Guavas,and red grapefruit contain a powerful carotenoid called Lycopene,which is about twice as powerful as Beta carotene.
~ Lycopene is the main pigment responsible for the red colour.Lycopene is the most abundant carotenoid in the prostate,and high levels of lycopene are linked to prevention of heart disease and prostate cancer.
~A study conducted by researchers examined the relationship between carotenoids and the risk of prostate cancer,and found that only the carotenoid lycopene was associated with protection.
~Men who ate more than 10 servings of tomato - based food a week had 35 % decreased risk of prostate cancer compared to those eating less than 2 servings a https://t.co/ppg6dEtoKp this study, the only tomato - based food that did not corelate with the protection was tomato juice.The men in the study with the greatest protection against prostate cancer consumed at least 6.5 mg of a day of Lycopene from tomatoes.
~Men are advised to eat more tomato based products,more guavas,Plenty of Water melon and red grapefruits to get protection against prostate cancer.About one man in six may develop prostate cancer during his lifetime.
~Increasingly ,Lycopene has been hailed as great anticancer agent. For example,John Hopkins researchers found lycopene severely lacking in the blood of those with pancreatic cancer. They also observed lycopene to be low in those with rectal and bladder cancer.Also low Lycopene was detected in blood levels of women with high risk of developing cervical cancer.

~ The most widely eaten highly concentrated source is Tomatoes,guavas, although Watermelon is richer in Lycopene on weight basis.Tomatoes have 3.1 grams of Lycopene per 100 grams ,Watermelon has 4.1 grams.Small amounts are present in apricots and red berries.
