2 years ago today, my autistic daughter got angry at Minecraft and threw her iPad at her computer monitor. This was the result.
I’m not a weak parent, so the monitor did not get replaced. However, two years on, she has gone from having daily v!olent meltdowns, to none. This was one of her last, actually.
As an autistic person myself, I have a lot of thoughts and opinions about raising autistic kids. I fell for a lot of nonsense I read online that you shouldn’t ‘punish’ v!olent autistic meltdowns because they ‘can’t help it’. I nipped that in the bud when she started hitting me whenever I said no to anything, not just when she was having a meltdown - because I had taught her that it was acceptable to do so.
So v!olence was met with the removal of any screen time for the rest of the day. Behaviour quickly changed. She’s now the sweetest, most polite kid, and I can’t even remember the last time she was in trouble for anything.
I regret listening to the people who said not to punish the behaviour because she ‘couldn’t help it’. Believing that autistics are completely incapable of any self-control is able!st- I’ve had many meltdowns myself as an adult and have I ever hit anyone? No.
Not correctly raising v!olent autistic children is how you end up with v!olent autistic adults - and by then it’s just too late.
If you’re in Australia, don’t tip when you eat out. We all get paid a living wage, and we don’t need the additional fees the service industry is pushing on us.
It’s getting pretty expensive to be blind, I used to spend $300-$500 on two sets of glasses. Today over $1000 with health insurance. Where’s that laser beam, I’ll do the surgery myself. #costofliving
Here’s more video of the person who assaulted me earlier today.
This man (?) ran up to me and punched me in the face as I was crossing a crosswalk, and then jumped on a bus which was right there.
I went on the bus get his image for the police, and was then assaulted again.
He’s shrieking that I am hurting him even though I’m not touching him. In fact, I’m backing away. He then crawls forward, grabs my signs, and pulls me towards him.

Always getting ghosted by @digiDirect_AU customer service. The amount of money I’ve spent there makes me uneasy if I can’t even retrieve a receipt for my $900 peak design tripod for a warranty claim.
Better to shop at George’s and deal with real people.
@kanevato@Qantas Airlines need to be accountable for things that consumers pay them for. It seems like nowadays arriving at the destination is optional (here’s a letter, claim it on travel insurance).
The ticket should be a contract between the consumer and airline. Break it, and comp is in order
