42 DA seats are on the North Carolina ballot this year.

Every prosecutorial district elects a district attorney in 2026. These offices decide what gets charged, dismissed, or pled out—and how seriously violent crime, theft, and repeat offending are treated.

A constitutional conservative DA enforces the law as written, prioritizes public safety and victims, applies the law correctly, and does not use charging power to rewrite policy the legislature never passed. Democrats want more diversion and less incarceration. Either way, the office has real power.

Look up your district. These races rarely get statewide attention, but they run the local criminal justice system.

1. Midterms decide who actually governs.

The House and a third of the Senate are on the ballot. Narrow majorities can flip. The next two years of laws, investigations, and confirmations will be set by whoever shows up.

2. State races last longer than Washington headlines.

Governors and legislatures control taxes, energy, schools, crime, and election rules for years. Those results shape daily life more than most presidential cycles.

3. Local races run your county.
Boards of commissioners set property taxes, zoning, and budgets. School boards decide curriculum, spending, and who runs the classroom. Sheriffs control policing, jails, and how state and federal law is enforced on the ground. These offices touch your family every week. They are won and lost by tiny margins—often a few hundred votes.

4. Not voting is surrender.

Lower turnout means every ballot counts more. Sitting this one out lets someone else decide it for you.

Lindsey Isaacs, a 23-year-old from Palm Coast, Florida, testified about being thrown into solitary confinement for more than three days after a Flock license-plate camera wrongly tied her Dodge Durango to a deadly I-4 crash.

Jail staff told her she had to stay isolated because of how serious the charges were. The cell door stayed locked for about 86 hours.

She said she was terrified she would spend the rest of her life in prison for a wreck she knew she hadn’t caused.

At her lowest point she didn’t want to live. She spent nearly two weeks in maximum-security jail before prosecutors dropped the charges.

Flock should be sued out of existence for this.

There is a cultural crisis happening in Japan. In just 5 months, 9 major Japanese temples and shrines have been burned to the ground. Many of these temples have stood for hundreds of years.

An officer warned him he'd get a WARRANT if he didn't show up, he'll have to miss school for it.

His name is Cade, he's 11 years old, a sixth grader in Oviedo, Florida.

His dad helped him start a little summer business selling squirrel tables and Cade worked all summer long, he saved up $900 and he bought that bike himself.

An 11-year-old entrepreneur, in 2026.

We should be putting this kid on a FREAKING POSTER!!!!

On Labor Day, Cade grabbed his fishing pole and rode toward the pond at Sweetwater Park, he was on the shoulder of the road, about 300 FEET from his house.

Why not the sidewalk?

His answer: "If I go on the sidewalk, I can only go 10mph, and also it's going to scare the pedestrians."

An 11-year-old thinking about pedestrians' safety!

Then, an Oviedo police officer pulled him over.

Asked him for his license, his registration, his proof of insurance.

THE KID IS ELEVEN.

Then they fingerprinted him.

Wrote him a citation with a mandatory court date and told this little boy, on camera, "You have to show up, OK? Or they're going to put out a warrant for you."

Then they called in the city tow truck!!!!!!

His dad's words: "They called in the city wrecker for this little, tiny electric bike and winched it on up there."

Next Tuesday, Cade has to skip school to stand in front of a judge.

Yes TECHNICALLY the police have a point under Florida law, but where was the common sense?!!!!

Cade now says: "Now I'm kind of scared to ride my dirt bike."

A Virginia mom got a criminal record for letting her son walk to a pond, two little girls in Pennsylvania got hauled into court over a broken swing, and now an 11-year-old in Florida gets printed for riding to go fishing.

We are criminalizing childhood in this country.

Even THE TOWN MAYOR called Cade a "good kid." She's right.

...and for the love of God, somebody give this kid his bike back.

I came across this last night. Looked into it. I’m in.

Austin has a Service Dog named Major locked in a kennel for 500+ days and they still want him dead.

Truck hits the Major, Owner runs for a phone. A woman tries to move an injured animal out of the road. He bites her. Accident. Pain. Fear. That’s the whole case.

She did not press charges. She did not go after the owner. She did not want him euthanized. City did it anyway.

That’s the problem. They don’t do case-by-case. They do a broad stroke. Injury happened = kill the dog!

Doesn’t matter if Major was bleeding and injured in the street after being hit by a truck. Doesn’t matter if the person who got bit is telling you not to do this.

Accidents happen. A hurt dog reacting to a stranger is not a dog who meant to hurt or kill somebody. We know the difference. Austin is pretending they don’t.

Local people fighting this case say one of the officials in the bite chain, Rebekha Montie at Austin Animal Services, was in a 2019 dog-attack incident and severely injured as a city employee. If that’s true, she should not be anywhere near judging these files. A nip, a provoked bite, a dog that had a bad day all of it looks the same when your own scar is in the room.

That’s bias. Release the 2019 report. Recuse her if it’s her. Don’t tell me it’s “just process.”

Texas law does not require his death. Health & Safety Code 822.003: if a dog kills someone, the court shall order him destroyed. If it’s serious injury, the court may destroy or release him to the owner or another authorized person.

A trainer, Jonas Black, already agreed to take him under conditions. The court can release him. The city is the one that asked for the kill.

They can stop it!

Texas courts walked away. A federal judge temporarily blocked the euthanasia.

Next hearing: September 29, 1:30 p.m.

He is not saved.

🇺🇸🗳️ 23-Sept North Carolina Early Voting Update: The First Tea Leaves 🗳️

The DataRepublican North Carolina map is LIVE and is updating on a daily cron job.

Before any numbers: In 2022, Democrats led mail returns by 55 points at this stage and by 41 at the end, and Republicans went on to win the state's statewide races that year. So my analysis judges 2026 against the same point in 2022.

Shift from the same point in 2022 (42 days out):

🔴 R share of mail: −1.8
🔵 D share of mail: −4.9
🟡 I share of mail: +6.7

Raw D–R margin: 🔴+3.1 shift toward Republicans
With independents split by each county's R/D mail split: 🔵+1.3

Democrats are losing share faster than Republicans, and independents are taking it. The reason I still forecast an overall Democratic shift is because I assume those independents break the way their county's mail does, and so far they are breaking Democratic. In 2024, independents broke Republican. That is a big flag to watch here.

Military and overseas ballots, sent by email, are 29% of returns this year, compared with 8% in 2022, and they run about D+47 (unchanged). Without them:

🔴 Domestic D–R margin: 🔴+7.4 shift toward Republicans (D+29.8, against D+37.2 in 2022)
🔴 Urban domestic mail (the 7 biggest metro counties): 🔴+6.3 (D+56.8, against D+63.1)
⚪ White domestic mail: roughly flat (D+35.1, against D+34.6)

Raw counts so far (2022 same point in brackets):

🔴 R : 1,120 [1,501]
🔵 D : 3,971 [5,186]
🟡 I : 3,078 [3,011]

🟡 I leaning 🔴 R: 659
🟡 I leaning 🔵 D: 2,419

Caveats:
- Tiny sample. 8,169 ballots in a state that cast about 3.8M in the last midterm.
- 2022 is the best available comparison, but it still had COVID-era mail habits. That baseline is inflated for Democrats.
- 2024 can't be compared yet. NC mailed its civilian ballots 18 days late that year, after reprinting them to take RFK Jr. off, so almost everything back by this point in 2024 was military and overseas.
- NC has no permanent mail list, so every civilian ballot here was requested for this election. Early returners are mostly habitual mail voters: 58% are 65 or older.
- The overseas surge makes Democrats look better statewide than they are on domestic mail. Which picture holds depends on what the civilian returns do over the next few weeks.

This doesn't rule out a Democratic wave. It also doesn't show one. The real signal starts when in-person early voting opens in mid-October.
