Damning new info revealed by FOI shows the Treasury privately discussed 3 conflicts of interest about Ray McCann yet appointed him anyway to lead a so-called ‘independent’ #LoanCharge review.

Treasury Minister @Dan4Barnet says the Government wants to resolve the #LoanChargeScandal but their approach leaves THOUSANDS of cases unresolved. He continues to call the #McCannReview ‘independent’ but the latest FOI revelations shatter that pretence ⬇️

Thank you @charlotte_giff . Bizarre response from Gov Spokesman who seems to think that a conflict of interest is a suitable qualification. #LoanChargeScandal
@BritainBro5380@NotRichYoungFa1@AndrewRosindell We are very concerned about loan recall, which we have said the Government should act on. They should legislate to stop this. They cannot argue simultaneously that it is income and the loan, it is one or the other.
@charlotte_giff HMT worried that Ex-HMRC official who introduced Accelerated (no challenge) Payment Notices, then saw them used way beyond the original limited and appropriate scope promised to Parliament - especially with #LoanCharge, might have a conflict of interest as Review Lead, much?
The retrospective #LoanChargeScandal continues destroy lives @wesstreeting, at least 11 #LoanChargeSuicides now (+13 attempts). The #McCannReview will fail to resolve, not least because thousands of victims are excluded.
This injustice must be resolved.

Similarities #LoanChargeScandal & #PostOfficeScandal self evident, but difference?....
..volume of evidence available BEFORE Public Inquiry which sure @LCAG_2019 will campaign relentlessly for.
#FOI's reveal HMT KNEW #McCannReview not independent!

“You should note the risk that this creates a perceived conflict of interest.. " - HMT
#McCannReview never independent and new #FOI revelations reveal Government & HMT recognised.
LCAG has written to Chancellor @RachelReevesMP with full details.

@BBCPolitics That's right up there with your "loan charge is not retrospective" line Mel Stride!
Obviously numbers aren't your strong point, with #LoanChargeScandal settlements costing £186m to generate £44m (from 800 people) over six years.
@gregwrightYP@libdemdaisy Exactly Greg!
MPs have asked for the cost of resolving all the cases, but guess what, the Government is refusing to give that cost.
Why?
To keep going with the same approach, without admitting how much it will cost is reckless. But also dangerous (and denying transparency!)
'How can the Government justify continuing a campaign affecting tens of thousands of people when it cannot state what the final cost to the public purse is likely to be?' Precisely. If it helps, keen to chat with @libdemdaisy about this. #loancharge#loanchargescandal
LCAG has written to Daisy Cooper MP following failure of HMRC to answer her straightforward question - what is total cost of resolving remaining #LoanChargeScandal cases?
Thank you @libdemdaisy for question, please continue to press for truth.
