@ticketek_uk
I appreciate you were receiving lots of emails last Sunday, any idea how long it will take to respond to my email sent on the 24th of November?
@dobbies I appreciate over the Christmas period your on-line complaints may not be dealt with quickly. But how long should we wait after submitting a complaint to the manager at Huntingdon on the 20th December?
@DeeCeedevlin@sophielouisecc The footprint of NH carnival crime is effectively the route. It therefore reduces enormously the amount of crimes recorded. I worked it for many years. Crimes taking place 10m off the route did not count.
Ok so why do Police Helicopters wake you up in the middle of the night!? 🚁😱
We swear an Oath when we join as Police Constables to do three things:
☑️ Keep the King’s Peace.
☑️ Protect People and Property.
☑️ Preserve life.
Like the military, we are Crown Servants, we can’t strike, amongst many other things, and are duty bound by that Oath.
So what on Earth has that got to do with a helicopter hovering over your roof at 0300!? 😡
Well, protecting people and property covers most crimes, including burglary, assaults, sexual assaults and vehicle crime. If Officers on the ground are searching for; or chasing suspects involved in an offence, they can ask for @NPAShq - a helicopter from the National Police Air Service to assist them. 🚁
What does a helicopter offer? A helicopter has incredible camera equipment on board that can zoom in to an awesome degree of accuracy as well as heat sensitive equipment that can spot someone hiding! In extreme emergencies the crew will even land and help those in need or chase a suspect too! 😮
They can also safely maintain commentary on a suspect vehicle travelling at high speed until Police Officers trained in ending pursuits (TPAC) are on scene. 🚔
Back to that Oath though - preserve life.
Probably the most important part of our oath. So if Officers are searching for a high risk missing person, possibly someone vulnerable or intent on harming themselves a helicopter is truly invaluable. I was once searching a cemetery when @NPAShq spotted the person high up in a tree in the middle of the night. Without them it could have been a very different ending. 😅
Finally, Public Order and keeping the King’s Peace. 👀
Sometimes we need an eye in the sky for a command team to see the situation on the ground. Public Order incidents can deteriorate rapidly and for the command team to get a grip on what they’ve got and what they need, that eye in the sky is invaluable. 👏🏻
BUT WHAT ABOUT DRONES!? 🤨
Drones are a phenomenal piece of kit. And in many circumstances they’re just as useful. They can’t however engage in any kind of pursuit because the pilot must maintain a visual line of sight with the drone at all times. Also their safety default is to land where they took off it they lose signal with the pilot which would be dangerous if the pilot had moved and the signal was lost. Also they have a battery life, which is much shorter than a helicopter’s fuel range. They *are* much quieter though and it’s not to say their advancement won’t stop a huge increase in their use and quite rightly too! 👌🏻
So that’s why you might be woken up in the wee hours. It’s to preserve life, keep the peace and protect people and property, always. #ThinBlueLine 🚨
