From dusty streets to hospital wards — this is God’s grace.
“So which of the favors of my Lord shall I deny?” 🤍
@sejudav@RugyendoQuotes But Peter, standing before the Sanhedrin (executive, judicial & religious authority of his day) responded:
“Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God.” (Acts 4:19)
I would have expected you to appeal to that position.
In moments when the state or anyone seeks to compel the saints to dishonor a command of the Lord, they must remember & boldly respond:
“Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God”Acts 4:19
And proceed to honor the Lord above all.
Memorizing scripture is a CHEAT CODE for dads.
What you will start to realize is no matter what problem they are going through, the answer they need is in that book.
My son was feeling guilty about how he behaved at school. “I’m guilty,” he said.
But he’s repented and apologized, so I told him:
Romans 8 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
“That means, even though you are guilty, Jesus already took that sin and bore it on the cross for you. So instead of staying stuck in shame, turn it into gratitude that He did that for you. Then we do better tomorrow.”
I can say with 100% certainty, without the Bible, I would not have been prepared to respond that effectively.
I humbly implore my fellow dads out there to GET IN THE WORD 🙌
I appreciate Josh's zeal for the Lord, and have no doubt that he and many others who attended this meeting are sincere believers who love Jesus. I have also appreciated much of Josh's cultural commentary. But as someone who grew up in this type of culture and is now free of it, I am concerned by posts like this. (My comments here are in good faith so please read the whole post before commenting.)
First, it could send the message to other Christians that they are missing out on something God is doing. It could cause them to want to imitate this, which in my opinion, could be disastrous for the spiritual life of many believers.
The context of 2 Cor. 10:14 has nothing to do with encountering God, music, or chasing God's instructions for your life or for your nation. 2 Cor. 10:14 is the primary passage on spiritual warfare which it defines as demolishing "arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." This all has to do with the realm of ideas. We do spiritual warfare by speaking truth to lies, not by having experiential encounters.
Now to the points:
1) Nowhere in Scripture are Christians instructed to pray for a "supernatural outpouring of God's spirit." Scripture instructs Christians to "be filled with the Spirit," which is a continual obedience to God's Word empowered by the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer.
2) Nowhere in Scripture are Christians instructed to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit to tell them what to do. This type of teaching has wrecked the lives of many believers who made horrific decisions about who to marry, what job to take, where to move, etc. Just watch Mike Wingers video on the multitude of fake prophecies that are now being exposed. In these types of environments, the music, energy, and excitement make people more suggestible and more easily manipulated by other people, and even their own imaginations. Scripture gives instructions on how to live and how to make decisions. We don't extra-biblical revelation for that.
3) Biblical worship is not defined as singing songs. In fact, Paul defines "spiritual worship" as presenting "your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God," in Romans 12:1. This is a continual obedience to the Lord and living a life of being conformed to his image. And please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying it's wrong to sing. Singing biblical truth is a good and beautiful expression of worship. But it isn't the only one, and it isn't "war" in the sense it's being used here. Also, the devil isn't afraid of your singing if you are singing theologically weak songs that mislead you and keep you from engaging deeply with Scripture.
4) Setting the expectation to have an "encounter with the living God" is vague. You can encounter the living God by reading his Word. You can encounter the living God by obeying his commands. You can encounter the living God by repenting of your sin, trusting in Christ, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. The type of promise being made here sets people up for a letdown (and potential deconstruction) when the hype doesn't match the expectation.
I would never deny any true and good fruit that happened as a result of this meeting. If people experienced conviction of sin and repentance, if they have increased boldness to preach the true gospel (and not give excuses for false teachers who preach the prosperity gospel,) if biblical intercession was practiced, and if the attributes of God were magnified and extolled, I rejoice. But all the extra-biblical stuff is why so many Christians are burning out on the charismatic church.
It's why I left the charismatic church 8 years ago.
The morning that changed everything.
Before the vows, before the celebration—just two hearts stepping into a new forever.

Now THIS is how you kick off a news conference at the Department of Health and Human Services:
"Men are men. Men can never become women. Women are women. Women can never become men. Children are innocent and they need our protection."
Our couple friends wanted to divorce after 2yrs of wedding, we sat them down and told them to first refund our money and time we wasted. If not, they must work on the marriage.
We again contributed money to take them somewhere for 3weeks to talk things out. 8yrs now no issues.
I read this story a hundred times and missed the point.
Not the resurrection.
What happened before that.
A man climbed a hill with three crosses.
The crowds were gone. The soldiers drunk. The women weeping.
And one wealthy man with clean hands decided to get them dirty.
He walked to Pilate — the man who just murdered his Lord — and asked for the body.
Then he climbed the ladder.
Grabbed the first nail.
Pulled.
Feel the weight of that moment.
God's body in your arms.
Blood not dry yet.
Staining expensive robes.
Hands.
Under fingernails.
The smell of iron in the air.
Here's what wrecked me:
Passover was three hours away.
The holiest day of the Jewish year.
And touching a dead body meant one thing:
Unclean for seven days.
No temple.
No worship.
No Passover.
He knew this.
He'd spent his entire life following these laws.
But Jesus was still hanging on that cross.
So he climbed anyway.
Joseph of Arimathea didn't do this expecting resurrection.
He did it expecting nothing.
Jesus was dead. Gone. Finished.
This wasn't faith in a miracle.
This was love for a corpse.
He gave up his purity.
His Passover.
His reputation.
His seat on the Sanhedrin.
His safety.
For a dead man who couldn't thank him.
Modern Christianity wants clean obedience.
Safe obedience.
Obedience that doesn't cost you Passover.
But Joseph shows us something else:
True discipleship gets your hands dirty.
Three days later, that tomb was empty.
Joseph gave his grave to Jesus.
Jesus gave it back.
The twist Joseph never saw coming.
Your messy obedience?
God's using it too.
Even when you can't see it.
So here's the question:
What are you avoiding because it's too messy?
What grave are you unwilling to give?
Joseph held death in his arms and missed the holiest day of his life.
And earned his name in all four Gospels.
Religion says stay clean.
Discipleship says climb the ladder.
What are you choosing?
A debate between contestants mostly helps to measure reasoning and oratory abilities, not necessarily the ability to perform. The best way to measure one’s leadership abilities is by checking their record of performance where they have been in a position of leadership (even a smaller one). Debates can only come in for us to compare one’s record of service with their speech and promises. Sometimes very good speakers are excellent liars, lazy procrastinators, terrible team players and indecisive cowards. Never measure anyone exclusively on the basis of their speeches and promises. Check HOW they have led at home (family), at school, in small associations, in their business, in other smaller leadership positions … Their style and abilities are best seen there.
I can never sit in a meeting to discuss items or money to be given to me for my daughter. That would be an insult to my daughter, and a display of greed on my part. My daughter is not like a cow that I’m breeding for the market, for me to earn from her marriage. All I would wish for is a sensible man who would treat her right, and that they love each other. The introduction ceremony should basically be about the two families meeting and getting to know each other.
Many young people in these hard times are no longer able to marry because of these retrogressive (primitive) practices that hardly ever get to be questioned. Today, Kukyala is a huge show-off function. Kwanjula is like a concert. Then a bigger religious wedding!
Culture can be improved as times change. Otherwise, things that were once meaningful can evolve into a nuisance protected under the banner of CULTURE.
