here affirms the expert group is for classes without a role IMO. Expertise mostly goes to combat related boosts in the end anyways, be it on athletics, acrobatics, or stealth.
Perhaps this highlights the lack of game in the exploration pillar.

It may interest you to know that @JeremyECrawford was lead designer on Blue Rose: it has 3 classes - warrior, EXPERT, and adept for magic.
Perhaps this design worked before? Why not reuse it. That aside, my query is regarding the Ranger
