I really want to stay away from politics…
But some of these are not political questions.
They are questions of freedom and government.. Which I have no problem commenting on.
Let’s take this issue of taxing unrealized gains.
If this applied to you, this would have bankrupted most of you that held your NFT assets from 2021 into 2022. Or even from 2022 to 2023.
It would have taxed you for the price of those NFTs (presumably as of December 31st) even if you had not sold them.
Most of those assets were worth far less in April of 2022 and April of 2023.
Now… this applies to real estate, stocks, etc etc.
What happens if you don’t have the money? You likely lose the asset. Who gets the asset?
The people that can afford them. Interesting how that plays out isn’t it?
Now… I know the defense.
“But it’s only those who make $100 million or more. What do you care?”
Here is how I answer that.
1.) Why would you be ok with the government taking more of anyones money?
2.) Can you show me how many new federal taxes have been implemented over the last 100 years?
Then show me how many of those were NOT expanded to reach into more pockets.
Then show me how many taxes today are lower than when they were first created.
3. I rest my case.
