Got flagged down at Starbucks. Matt Hovey turned it into a photo shoot, gifted us police rubber ducks for autism awareness, then borrowed my phone to type in part:

🚁 Not a drill, Plainfield — we spotted what looked like a theft in progress… turns out it was just a helicopter yeeting a massive HVAC unit onto a warehouse roof like it’s nothing. Private op on private property, but we couldn’t resist watching. Pilot gets all the glory.

🚨 Our new buddy: Pileated Woodpecker landed on the patrol car, tapped the window checking on us. Good guy with a beak. We let him roll.

Might have to get him a tiny uniform next time — make him the new department mascot. Backup with wings. Don’t mess with our woodpecker. 🪶
