@RokoMijic@ox_anna29 From an American perspective, the draconian British punishments for speech are hard to understand. I assumed the right was against them, but it seems like you just want different people punished.
@grahamcclark1 It definitely gives the album a gritty sound, so I could see how someone could be into it. I could never really figure out why it sounded weird. I eventually read an interview with Don Was where he said the vocals are lower in the mix than on most albums, and I think that's it.
@amelia_squealia I can understand getting offended or feeling like the term “Americans” shows the arrogance of the US or whatever, but I actually don’t think it hinders communication that much.
@amelia_squealia The people I see getting most upset about this are Latin Americans, and they already have a term to use to describe themselves collectively: Latin Americans! It doesn’t really seem like there’s actually much occasion to talk about all of the countries in the Americas as a group.
@Schengerns@robbiem218@LewisWetzel148@longstorychort@mikitaposts I’m really not talking about whether they’re actually Irish in any sense. It’s just that I constantly see people saying that if your last Irish ancestor got to the US in the 19th century you must have very little Irish ancestry, and that’s just not true.
@robbiem218@LewisWetzel148@longstorychort@mikitaposts I'm surprised by how little Europeans understand about how this works in the US. There are places in the US where people of Irish descent mostly just married each other for 100 years. All 8 of JFK's great-grandparents were Irish immigrants, and that wasn't an unusual thing here.

@EsotericCD@rkylesmith@PaulMcCartney Paul was actually doing coke pretty early, around '67 iirc. He talks about it in his memoir, "Many Years From Now."
@taiggoblin The thrust of his tweet is that it’s bad to shit all over me and people like me. To then invoke the suffering of my ancestors (not yours!) to knock the tweet is insane. I get to whine about that shit. Not you. You have to shut the fuck up.
