The story of Elzada Clover and Lois Jotter will stay in my mind and heart forever. Everyone should read this book.
A tale of science, women, and plants intimately woven to paint a beautiful tapestry of the history of the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon.
Hello everyone! The world can be a frightening place, and sometimes things from space can seem a little scary too.
But tonight, I want to share with you a little story about asteroid 2022 WJ1—and how its detection may save future lives. ☄️
Thread! 🧵
This morning at 8:26:59 UT a #asteroid disintegrated over the city of Brantford Ontario. The object (2022 WJ1) was 1m in size & caused no reported damage. Discovered by CSS observer David Rankin, it was quickly identified as a small & harmless impactor by #NASA's CNEOS
Lick Observatory has put together a nice web exhibit about cometary astronomer and LPL Professor Elizabeth Roemer. Her challenges as a woman scientist from the 50s onward, including being underpaid & under respected at the UA, are sadly not surprising. https://t.co/1shd5ttNcP

Looking for a postdoc to come work with me @LowellObs to analyze all the amazing data we’ve collected with @SolarTelescope to understand how stellar activity impacts planet detection! https://t.co/orjYuUfkIc
Thanks to the infinite kindness of @teddykareta, I got to give a fun talk at Lowell Observatory which (among other things) is from where Pluto was officially observed and discovered. Definitely a journalism career highlight. :)
Today we call your attention to the WGSBN bulletin which features asteroid number 47708 named after Jim Hamilton, who was known for curating an email newsletter for Astrophotography before his passing in 2021. You can find the original citation at https://t.co/OtfckcdfCC
While the telescope is away, harps will play! As our 1.5m telescope's primary is off for re-aluminizing Operations Specialist Alessandra S. plays "Stella Splendens" taking advantage of the domes acoustic properties! https://t.co/zyYoiakWiy
