80% of greenhouse gas emissions can be linked to just 57 companies: https://t.co/ECKfx9gklx We know who's responsible for this crisis.
Time to phase out fossil fuels and #ActOnClimate#climate#energy#renewables#voteclimate
Fossil fuels were given over $7 TRILLION in subsidies last year: https://t.co/uBmJhBX3Xd That's $19.2 billion per day,
$799 million per hour,
$13.3 million every minute.
The first step in addressing the problem is to stop funding it. #ActOnClimate#climate#energy
Karachi is one giant oven. It's near 50C temperatures stretch the limits of human survivability daily. The ambulance service delivers 30 to 40 bodies to the #Karachi city morgue daily. In the last six days, they have collected 568 bodies, including 141 on Tuesday alone. #Climate
I made this last night, because this is the most worrying 12 months that I’ve seen in my 15 years as a climate scientist. This is only a small collection of the crazy graphs from this year (part 1 of 2)
Good news! 🚨
@IEA’s new #NetZeroRoadmap shows limiting global warming to 1.5 °C is still possible, thanks to record clean energy growth.
But greater ambition & implementation and stronger international cooperation will be crucial to achieve this goal 👉 https://t.co/2HB9OS3fir
What we must do immediately:
1) End the use of fossil fuels
2) Build massive amounts of solar & wind
3) Electrify everything
4) Localize
5) Conserve
5) Find solutions for the last hard stuff (planes, cement)
6) Stop cutting down forests

Global temperatures in 2023 are extraordinary.
The various different datasets available all agree on this. We are breaking records by shocking amounts.

Stor klimatstrejk i Stockholm 22a september!
Vi samlas på Mynttorget kl 12 för en avmarsch och demonstrationståg följt av scenprogram. Det är dags att återigen höja rösten och vara hoppet vi behöver. Vi ses där!

This image breaks me. At 2.7 degrees of warming, which is our present policy trajectory, two billion people will be exposed to extreme heat.
99.7% of those people live in the global South. People who have done nothing to cause this crisis. The injustice is staggering.
Glacier break floods can have devastating impacts. As the world warms this will become more common. And the big one in Antarctica gets weaker with every increase in global temperatures.
#ClimateChange is exceptional and caused by human greenhouse gas emissions
We are causing #globalwarming 100 times faster than past natural changes
We are taking Earth’s climate way beyond natural limits, with carbon dioxide and temperatures levels not seen for 3 million years
BAM! California will prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035. 100% of new cars sold in the state will be fossil fuel emission free. Who's next?
We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate#Climate#energy#EVs#renewables
170 million people across the US are under heat alerts. This expanse of heat is just incredible. How many climate lessons are going to be required before actual mitigation begins.
Wow, just wow. The planet is breaking.
Antarctic sea ice extent is the headline for me this morning. There was actually a net *decrease* in ice extent day over day, and it's mid-winter there, peak freeze season.
Extent is now 6.4 standard deviations below the 1991-2020 mean.
The climate crisis is quickly spiralling out of our control. 1000s of fish washing up dead in the Gulf of Mexico because the water is too hot to hold oxygen.
This is a climate emergency. There is no time to wait. Stop the delays. Dump fossil fuels. #ActOnClimate
Update on the multiple ocean heat waves... And make sure you Wait for It. Global oceans reached 21C today (~70F) that's 1.4F above norm & .5F above record. North Atlantic even more impressive at 2.5F above norm & 1.4F above record! The new winner: the NW Atlantic spots at +14F
Our oceans have been breaking heat records across the globe daily since March.
Excessive and sustained heat in the oceans can have enormous impact on many types of marine life. We have seen damaging marine heatwaves before, but not like this.
A short thread...
An offshore wind farm operator set up cameras and radars to check how many seabirds collided with its turbines. It tracked 10,000 flights. Not one bird even came close to a collision: https://t.co/poikVYsHHS
We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate#climate#energy
