My son’s friend goes to Humber College and told me something today that floored me.
An instructor walked out of class and one of the students immediately stood up and said, “Did anybody understand what they just said?”
Nobody did.
He tells me 4 of his 6 instructors have English as a second language, and in several classes he struggles to clearly understand what is being taught.
Then you add instructors basically reading off PowerPoint slides and calling it teaching.
These kids are PAYING thousands of dollars for this.
Meanwhile, you can go on YouTube for free and find someone who has spent hours putting together a lesson, explains the material clearly, gives examples, and lets you replay anything you don't understand.
At some point higher education has to confront its value proposition.
If students are learning the material better from YouTube than inside the classroom they're paying thousands to attend, the model has a serious problem.

A year after 2 Hindu temples were vandalized one in #Mississauga and one in Brampton no arrests or charges have been laid to date. There is a growing sense in the #Hindu community that hate crimes against the Hindu community does not get enough attention .
