Reminder. From John Haidt’s work only about 10% of the population is rational. The rest rationalize their emotions. That 10% is concentrated disproportionately among mostly high IQ, entrepreneurial, classical liberal, upper class men. In game theory studies 10% of people provide leadership to the rest on every level from political opinions within friend groups to national politics.

This is why premodern societies gave the nobility or upper classes such profound privileges but also weight of responsibility. Most people repeat the things society says and there are truly only about a dozen free thinkers ever generation who emerge from studying their own data sets like history, classical literature, mythology-religion, science or the world itself through experience who can build their own mental frames in isolation. Everyone else thinks what the group tells them to differing degrees. This means that there is a profound weight of responsibility for leadership that we ignore and also that we don’t give leaders nearly enough credit.
